Elementary 3.23
May. 11th, 2015 10:36 amOddly filler like for an episode before the finale. Err, not bad, just that it could have taken place at any point of the season. Otoh: bees!
To wit: yes, it's great Holmes gets to solve the murder of bees (and some people, too, but you know and I know it was the mass insecticide that mattered most in this case for Holmes the beekeeper. And I also liked that Gregson asked Watson to investigate his potential replacement. (If you want a tactful investigation which doesn't include possibly pissing the entire department off, you want Joan, not Sherlock.) The "sympathetic boss gets promoted, in the end declines promotion" is old, but the emotional point its execution made - there was nothing wrong with Gregson's potential successor, she was an excellent officer, and both Gregson and Joan realised they had wanted something to be wrong with her so Gregson would have an excuse for staying; instead, he has to own up to his wishes - was valid.
But like I said - it feels not like a pre finale episode. The only potential continuity element was Gregson's buddy/superior hinting there's someone who really wants Gregson gone, and would try this now in a less nice way. Which, okay is a lead-up to something, but what does it have to do with the rest of the season?
In conclusion: I'm puzzled.
