Fictional horrors are so much better

Fighting rage and depression about rl politics (both on a national and global level), I turn to fandom(s). Rewatching some Penny Dreadful s2 in preparation for s3 which starts in May reminded me that my disgruntlement with aspects of s2 notwithstanding, there were some aspects I adored. Ferdinand Lyle getting fleshed out and becoming a character showing up in every episode, for example. He could so easily have come across as a caricature, but instead both Simon Russell Beale and the writing make you feel for him, adore his flamboyance, his default flirting with the male regulars, his dignity even while being blackmailed. And in a season that ends on downer notes for everyone else, he makes it out alive and well despite the odds. I really must remember to ask for Lyle this Yuletide - how I could I have forgotton?

Meanwhile, a trip to the AO3 introduced me to this great Vanessa character vid:

Politics: I know it's cowardly, but I feel if there was a flight to Mars right now, I'd be on it.

The promos I've seen for Penny Dreadful so far fill me with joy. Poor Christian Carmago, though - apparently he was so memorable as Rudy in Dexter, I simply expect every single one of his characters to be evil (although when you are called Dr. Sweet and appear to be into taxidermy, you only have yourself to blame I guess).

I'm waiting for Aliens to discover us in order to have a getaway, too, but in the meantime I've been reminded one mustn't give up and let the demgagogues be the only ones with voices, etc.

Taxidermy has been associated with serial killing since Norman Bates, so... yeah. :)
