Sally Wainwright is going to direct a movie about the Brontes!. Filming to start this month in Yorkshire. The names of the actresses don't sound familiar, but Patrick is played by Jonathan Pryce, which, yay! And Sally Wainwright sounds ideal.

Meanwhile, the BBC and Netflix are going to co-produce a four part miniseries version of Watership Down, with James MacAvoy voicing Hazel, Nicholas Hoult Fiver (so, someone in the casting department really liked X-Men: Days of Future Past, huh?), John Boyega Bigwig and Ben Kingsley General Woundwort. This article also lists Olivia Colman as Strawberry. (A genderbent Strawberry I can see, but you can't change the gender of too many other rabbits without a major plot point/motivation needing to change, i.e. the reason why the rabbits go to Efrafra.)

Omg, more Sally Wainwright!! I'm familiar only with the actress playing Anne, who was in Happy Valley (she played Ann Gallagher).

Yay, Watership Down! I never saw the cartoon at a formative period in my life, but I love the novel, so I'll be looking forward to this as my first adaptation experience.

I saw the cartoon as a child before I read the book (it was the not unusual "parents see new movie about rabbits is in the cinema, send child there without checking first" thing), but unlike apparantly a lot of other people, wasn't traumatized by the darker parts; probably because I was used to all the gruesome death in the Grimm fairy tales, un-Disneyfeyed editions, not to mention Greek myths, which I was an avid reader off. (In Germany in my generation, chances were if you were a Catholic child who loved to read you got Gustav Schwab's collection of Greek myths as a present for your first Communion, i.e. age 8.) So basically the movie captivated me enough to make me look for the book, which I then truly fell in love with. Subsequent rewatchs made me realise inevitably a lot of had to be left out in order to condense the novel to cinema movie length, which is one reason why I'm now so delighted there will be a tv miniseries! That should offer enough time.
