I want to live in another timeline so very badly right now

I was sad about Carrie Fisher but thought I'd make it through the day without crying, and I did, yesterday, trying very hard to focus on Darth Real Life's task, and now I've woken up to find that Debbie Reynolds is gone, too. And now the tears are just flowing. Of course I didn't know either of them, any more than millions did. But each in their different way gave me something as a part of the audience, made my life brighter. And no parent should have to endure the loss of their child. If Debbie Reynolds had died last week, I'd still be somewhat sad, but I'd think: "She had a good life. It's what she thought herself. Let's rewatch Singing in the Rain."

Now I'm just trying to stop crying, and getting back to work. Reading rozk's beautiful poem about both Leia and Carrie Fisher. Crying again. Dammit. Focus. Work.

It was a shock this afternoon to get that terrible news. And yeah, other circumstances, I'd be the same, rewatching Singing in the Rain. But no, it's so sad this way.

What a strange, terrible year.

Indeed. It feels very Sam and Frodo in Mordor by now, and I try to cling to the knowledge Sauron was eventually defeated.

That poor family...what a lot for anyone to go through. And such talented women who touched so many lives.

Yes, they did, and oh, the brother and (grand)daughter! It must be horrible beyond words for them.

Yeah it looks more and more like we are in one of those crappy, grimdark universes, not the one where things turn out okay...

I keep reminding myself that good things happen too, like it looks like we now have a safe and very effective Ebola vaccine.

That's true, and for many, many people, that means the difference between life and death. Thank you for reminding me!

I cried quietly for Carrie Fisher; I sobbed for Debbie Reynolds, when last week, yes, I would've gotten a friend to watch Singin' in the Rain with me and smiled at a life well lived. I ache for their family.

I think I saw G.R.R.M. Martin apologizing somewhere that this year was written by him, and he has a point...
