Aka the early season finale. That was a brief season, and I shall miss the midwives! Will there be another season, one has to ask this late in the game?

One complaint: I thought the case of poor Velma deserved another scene, possibly with older Jenny narrating that the blood clot problem was dealt with. (I think the idea that taking several pills at once is really wrong was obvious.) This being said, Velma's case, with her having to take the pill behind her husband's back because he's set on another child, and her even asking the doctor whether she needs her husband's permission to get contraception as she did for taking a job, was a sobering reminder how relatively recent bodily autonomy and equal rights were achieved in these parts of the world. I suspect that one reason why Barbara also gets contraception in preparation for her marriage to Tom (and of course making this decision openly, but on her lonesome, not under the impression she has to ask him) was to avoid the implication that contraception itself is a negative, or that married women shouldn't use it.

Various long term plot threads came to happy (for now) resolutions here - Barbara and Tom got married, Shelagh had her baby (and since 've always loved her relationship with Sister Julienne, I felt incredibly mushy watching Sister Julienne deliver that baby; that the Turners remain the most adorable couple is without question, that mutual singing was something else, too), Trixie meets Christopher the Dentist's daughter Alexandra (and hits it off with her), Patsy returns (with the explanation for the lack of letters being that immediately after her father died she got on the boat in order to return to Delia), and we got our long awaited on screen kiss between her and Delia. (Also, earlier in good continuity Delia visits the lesbian bar in order to worry without having to hide why.) The two scenes with Trixie and Tom in their professional capacities at the hospital also reminded me that the season showed them working together and getting along well repeatedly, from the Christmas special onwards, and since I enjoy it when exes are depicted as managing to be friends, I highly approve. (It also feels earned, in that immediately after their breakup they weren't able to do this, but are now, not in denial of the past, but in acknowledgment and moving on.)

Barbara asking Phyllis Crane to be her bridesmaid, and Phyllis' reaction: awwww. In many ways, this has been Phyllis Crane's season, and also Sister Monica's.

Fred responding to Violet's menopause - triggered distress by bringing Reggie for a visit (which also shows the audience Reggie is doing well and is unforgotten): also awwww. They're all such dear people on this show, which makes it such perfect comfort watching in current times - not because it glosses over tragedies, but because it highlights kindness, friendship and love the way it does.

In conclusion: a good note on which to leave Germany with for a month!

Oh, not crossposted. But I found it. :-)

Yes, I agree about Velma. That was terrible. I wonder why she didn't get a diaphragm but they gave one to virginal Barbara. (I do think she said she was using a douche and not liking it. And a man can feel a diaphragm so maybe that's why.) It wouldn't have been the same if Barbara had had the pulmonary embolism. Or Trixie. The poor mother, that family deserved another scene. Some hugs. Something.

Reggie! Aww! I feel like Violet needed that. He's like the baby of the family and still needs a mum. And Velma was so kind to her. I hope that other lady who miscarried earlier will get to have her baby too.

That said, another baby boy Turner! That was such a sweet, sweet moment. So happy for all of them. Phyllis was amazing as was Sister Monica Joan.

There are to be three more seasons! I can't even imagine. The actress that portrays Sister Monica Joan doesn't even know if she'll survive season to season. She's 81. So that's funny and not funny all at once. I have a feeling she'll make next season. I so hope so. She's so . . . good.
