selenak: (Christmas Icon - Monanotlisa)
[personal profile] selenak
Okay, I give in. Christmas icon. How can I not, when [livejournal.com profile] monanotlisa makes such an adorable one?

Going through various Alias archives while attempting not to spoil myself further on the rest of season 3, I came to the conclusion that life as a fan would be easier if I once, just once, managed to fall for the pretty. I mean, look at the amount of Sark fanfic. (See also: Marcus fanfic in B5. See also: Spike fanfic in BtVS. See also: Bashir fanfic in DS9.) Instead, Sark leaves me as cold as Vaughn does, and I'm all agog over Arvin S., darn his sinister attraction, who thereby joins Bester, Londo Mollari, Quark and Rygel in the ranks of my unpretty middleaged crush objects.

Hm. Perhaps that's the reason the four or so episodes I ever saw of Stargate left me emotionally cold despite not being boring. These people are all too good-looking. Yes. That explains it.

In othe news, and in case I don't manage to post again in the next few days, merry christmas/yuletide/term of choice, everyone!

P.S. And speaking of middle-aged crush objects, awwww.

Even deeper thoughts

Awwww indeed.

And tell me Londo didn't use a tentacle to grab a snack? I think I frightened my birds, I laughed so hard when I read that.

I'm with you on Quark and Londo, and thought Spike was a lot cuter before he started taking off his shirt every three seconds. But I wonder where Next Generation fits into the prettyness-crush department? Data is...kinda funny-looking.

I had a huge Geordi crush when I was in about eighth grade ...

Huh. Geordi never did it for me. I guess I just go for the non-humans?

I mostly do too. They're usually more interesting than brave handsome heroes I can't related to.

Yuppers. There's probably also some kind of non-threatening unattainability thing, but I'm steadfastly ignoring that.

Yes, he did. *looks innocently* So?

TNG: Do you really need to ask? I'm a Picard fangirl all the way. That voice!

*looks studiously non-judgemental* Oh, nothin'. Juuuust checking.

Sure, sure, Baldilocks gets all the attention...:)

And I'm sure that your middle-aged lust objects are grateful for it. Let Spike be pursued by fangirls, they get the intelligent and creative mature women

Now you're making me blush, which isn't the most mature of reactions. Thank you, kind sir.

I don't have anyone to glom onto in Stargate either, although I tend to glom to the middle-aged crush objects in addition to the pretty (not all the pretty, just the ones who are actually interesting characters). I don't hate the people, I'm just kinda like "eh."

Need to actually watch Alias beyond the first half of the first season ...

"Eh" was precisely my reaction. And yes, I'm not immune to the pretty, either, if it's united to the interesting, but if put between the interesting and the pretty, I'll take the interesting every time.

I was just thinking last night, having now met Emily and watched Sloane being manipulated into killing his old friend, that it was Bester he reminded me of. Not in the specifics, but in the way the text gives us a balance of ruthlessness and humanity. (And also thinking that the man who gave him false evidence was going to end up very, very sorry in the long run. Do not cross Sloane - unless you're part of the Bristow family.)

And you can stop looking at me like that. I have too many fandoms in the queue. (Don't pretend you're not looking at me like that. I can tell.)

My dear, I've been looking at you like that ever since I got you to read my Alias/X-Men crossover, which was my lure to get you interested, and you're only noticing now? You're getting sloppy.*veg*

And yes, good comparison. Also, quite. Keep it in mind when watching the first half of season 2, and you might not be as (delightedly) surprised as I was by the big twist...

Er, I was distraced by my [livejournal.com profile] yuletide story?

I shall do so. Sloane vs. The Other Bad Guys is fun *g*. You can cheer for Sloane without any pangs of conscience if he's seeking revenge on people as bad as he is ...

While I am easily lured by the pretty (yes, I'm a member of the Sark Harem. What can I say, I'm just shallow that way), I do tend to prefer the older-and-more-complex gentlemen of my fandoms. I'd choose Giles and/or Ethan over Spike any day, Picard over anyone else in all Trek, Skinner over Mulder (besides, Scully would kill me if I went for Mulder...and I admit to being fascinated with Locke in "Lost". No idea why.

In "Alias", Sark and Jack Bristow run a close race. It depends on my mood. As for Sloane, I suppose it says something about the character and Ron Rifkin's portrayal of him that I loathe and despise him, yet was whimpering in fear for his life during a certain S3 episode. He's eeeeeevil, yes--but "Alias' wouldn't be nearly as fun without him.

Love your icon. *grins* Santa Sloane, bringing Rambaldi insanity to all the good (bad?) little spies...

Mmmm, Picard. Mmmmm, Skinner. Love them both.

As for the whimpering, I did just that in The Episode Whererin Katya Almost Makes Jack You Know What (which I watched yesterday evening). The exchange of looks between the two! Waaaaaah! Etc.

Actually, don't envy the fangirl fic. Most of it is *dreadful*. Marcus, for instance, becomes the biggest slut on B5 in far too many stories, regardless of his actual canon status...

Marcus notwithstanding, I don't generally go for teh pretty. I like Marcus because I like his character, the way he works, and all that. Just being pretty cuts no ice. Though he *is* pretty, I'm not denying that :)

And Bester isn't ugly! He has the *cutest* evil smile...

Froehliche Weinachtsfest!
