Date: 2018-10-02 11:09 am (UTC)re: Julian-Claudian RPF, at a guess, the nominator originally chose "Ancient Rome" or "Ancient History" and was told this was too broad, then came up with a label covering most of the characters they wanted. But if it results in awkward interaction between the Cicero Brothers, Caesar, Caesar's wives and Caesar's daughter, I'm all for it! (I mean, Julia when married to Pompey must have had her share of social encounters with Terentia and Cicero, surely? And while I always thought that Cicero & Caesar must have had some moments of understanding about dead beloved daughters even during the last year of Caesar's life, this would be a better story if someone took the trouble of fleshing out Julia and Tullia as people first.

Date: 2018-10-02 02:48 pm (UTC)Looking at the tag set again, there's no reason to think you couldn't substitute the consul of 30 for the consul of 63, too.
I do think that Hilary Mantel wanted a certain kind of story about Camille Desmoulins, and sometimes wish she'd written it more explicitly!

Date: 2018-10-02 04:09 pm (UTC)I used to request a Camille/Lucille/Danton threesome for some Yuletides, and then someone sort of wrote it, though not fo rme. :) One of the reasons why I prefer A Place of Greater Safety to her Cromwell novels is that while you can tell Mantel loved Robespierre, Camille and Danton, she also clearly saw their flaws, and the novel doesn't pretend otherwise.

Date: 2018-10-02 10:09 pm (UTC)I like the idea of doing rec posts, though. It might be a good idea to start those soon, actually, in order to get people thinking about them before signups open.

Date: 2018-10-03 01:20 am (UTC)I will nicely ask that people not comment to say that they hate the canons or haven't seen them because they know they'd hate them.

Date: 2018-10-03 09:08 am (UTC)ETA: You do good rec/review posts, so I might just end up linking to yours for Punisher if you do one. I think most of what we liked about the show was the same anyway.
