Tonight...
Jan. 14th, 2005 06:10 pmFriends, Americans, People Across The Sea, lend me your ear: tonight you shall watch Battlestar Galactica. Trust me. Do this. It's a classy, well-written, well-performend show with moral dilemmas, cool characters, and NO ROBOTDOGS. You've heard me babble about its virtues before, you will hear me again, and conversation is ever so much better than monologue. Also, I would just love to read
deborah_judge and
kakodaimon on Cylon monotheism versus human polytheism, or
penknife and
artaxastra tackle this version of Adama and Moore's best original contribution, the fabulous President, Laura Roslin (actually, I'd like to read Deborah tackling her, too, with her thing for mature female politicians).
karabair could do such great stuff with Apollo and Starbuck. And
sabine101, if we ever get her back permanently, unhounded by RL woes, could do wonders with Baltar and Six. Watch, I beg you. Support from the beginning.
Here is an introduction with pictures and shorthand descriptions of characters and relationships.
This is Andraste's reaction to the miniseries preceding the show, and here is Melymbrosia's somewhat more critical, but still positive review of same. (As the three of us are love the same aspect best, I'm looking forward to further reviews from them.)

Speaking of Andraste, she also wrote some
cool Babylon 5 meta here. On the significance of Centauri, Narn and Minbari using ancient weapons, specifically.

Date: 2005-01-14 06:08 pm (UTC)Also, I am mostly visiting to apologise for Bester slowness. Real Life has become incredibly intrusive and rather scary. When things normalise or approach (relative) normality I'll return to it with a vengeance. Hopefully it's very short-term. I know how long you've waited for the plot.
evil!
Date: 2005-01-14 06:09 pm (UTC)you are much evil-er than Gaius Baldar, because you have no moral conflict or remorse. and you're probably right!
my attempts to watch tonight may be foiled because my power is out. *just as I typed that? the power came on. weird!*
as far as the way fandom corrupts everything. . .I was rereading the last act of King Lear, noticing how Edmund tries to play up his own big death scene when everything is falling apart around him (and how do I love that Albany's reaction to the news of Edmund's death is basically "Who gives a shit?") anyway, that lovely bit of narcissism reminded me of Gaius' "what have I done?" during the "world blowing up" scene.
also, thanks for the Bab5 info. . .I don't remember which ep I saw, it was the first one on the DVDs, but I'll bookmark your recs for when I get the discs.

Date: 2005-01-14 06:38 pm (UTC)also, apropos of (almost) nothing, I just love Wesley's clothes in these caps; they're much nattier than his usual dark!Wes look, so it's like he dressed up to come ask Fred to the high school dance; so they work perfectly when he's head boy again.

Good points all around, and yes, there is definitely a similarity.*g*
By the way....

Date: 2005-01-14 08:58 pm (UTC)I'm thrilled Moore's doing one! I used to read his posts on the AOL Star Trek forums voraciously during DS9's run and even asked a few questions which he answered.
Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll start an Ask Ron Moore section.
