Easterly Pic Spam
Apr. 20th, 2019 05:58 pmI wish you peaceful, joyful holidays, be they Easter or Pesach, and start my annual Easter Wells pic spam with the heroes of the hour....

FIREBUNNIES!
Seriously though, I am in love with the well in Kleingesee. Last year's theme was "Fairy Tales", the year before that it was "Beer". This year, they very timely decided to praise firemen (and -women), and while this is only logical given the local firepeople are providing the location of the well in question, the firebunnies totally stole my heart. I mean:

You'd love him, too.
Two more overviews:

The saint on top of the well is St. Florian, Patron of firemen. Now check out the details:

There were of course other impressive efforts as well. Old Faitfull, aka the well at Tiefenpölz, greeted us at the start of Franconian Switzerland as ever:

This year with rhymed sayings about animals as its theme:

Not everyone has a big space to decorate their well, but any bit of green on the road will do the job, and the result can be very pretty indeed:

Some villages also go to the effort of having not just one but two Easter Wells, like Ebermannsstadt, which has the big one:

And the onew where they honor a baroque composer of the town, Melchior:

Beringersmühle this year decorated its well according to the main leisure activities available in this area - crowned by Firebunnies as well, just like in Kleingesees. The other parts of the well are devoted to fishing, rowing, and, well, you'll see:

More detailed:

Meanwhile, Obertrubach never changes:

Nor does Gößweinstein:

But now at last it's time for the biggest easter well of them all, in Biberach:

More detailed:

Not a well, but a bridge, and I do love this Easter bridge in Drosenfeld:

However, visiting Franconian Switzerland and its Easter Wells wasn't all I did on Good Friday. Early in the morning, I also took part in the Good Friday procession, which means you walk up the Bamberg hills and see the city lying beneath you like this:

And once you've reached the Altenburg, the highest point of the Bamberg area, you see the sun rise:

From the Altenburg, it's down one hill and up another, as the last but one station is at a place called Rothof.
It may not be Golgatha, but let me tell you, we were a bit short of breath by the time we were up there...

And with this, I bid you adieu for the Easter Weekend.
