It's impossible to talk about these without spoiling the end of season 2, so: spoiler cut time!
To wit: finally, at long last, into the post DS9/Voyager future. In last year's January meme, I did a post about how every incarnation of Star Trek ever since Enterprise rooted itself into fannish nostalgia (in varying degrees, most blatantly, of course, with the rebootverse movies) by choosing either an earlier setting or already established characters or both rather than trying to continue to the story of the Trekverse post the Dominion war and the end of Voyager's journey. Since the ending of Star Trek: Discovery's second season leaves Michael and the Disco crew on their way into the far, far future, 900 years from the TOS era, this will be no longer true, and I'm very excited about what they and we the audience will find there. So, more detailed hopes:
1.) Trying something genuinely different with the universe 900 years later, i.e. not just the ST verse familiar to us all with some new fashion styles. This should definitely include new aliens. The Kelpians were a good start (my issues with the s2 episode featuring them heavily nonwithstanding). So: bring on the new life forms and new civilisations!
2.) If we do get these, I'm also cool with our already established races showing up, but it would be neat to choose some the new movies and s1 - 2 Disco haven't already explored, to wit: Andorians and/or Cardassians. We didn't get any decent (in the sense of interesting, not in the sense of morally upright) Cardassians since DS9, and few would dispute that one of Enterprise's uncontested virtues was developing the Andorians. But while some could be seen in the background of s1 Disco, there haven't been any Andorian characters since ENT, so: if you bring back established aliens, please consider them, show!
3.) Finding something to do for Culber that's not relationship drama with Stamets, possibly via developing his non-romantic relationships with other crew members. And speaking of Stamets, more mutual snark & respect sessions with Jet Reno are always welcome.
4.) Fleshing out Gabrielle Burnham, once they find her (as I hope and believe they will); I'm very curious about the woman, and of course I appreciate that Michael in the future will still have two very different mother figures (MirrorGeorgiou and Gabriellel) to have convoluted relationships with.
5.) Give Tilly more scenes with Michael again; after early s2, their friendship fell a bit to the wayside since Tilly had most of her narrataively juicy scenes with Stamets & Co. while Michael had most of hers with Pike and Spock.
6.) No Borg. Please, no Borg. Between Jean-Luc Picard, Seven and Hugh, the Picard series is bound to deal with them anyway, and as we've all learned, there is such a thing as diminishing returns and too much Borg.
These are just a few aspects, and to repeat: I'm really looking forward to season 3!

Date: 2020-01-06 09:40 am (UTC)Definitely want more Culber, plus Tilly and Michael will surely get more quality time again now that Michael doesn't have both her brother and mother on her plate. (I also believe they'll find Gabrielle. Michael has so many moms, eeee!!)
