Farscape Rewatch: The Organisation
Apr. 1st, 2020 07:13 amOkay, since there is interest, let's talk practicalities. Firstly:
- one episode a week, or is this too old school for you? I just think it would leave us time to discuss it. In the case of two-parter episodes, we could of course do both at the same time.
- which episodes to choose, since there seems to be consensus about doing a "highlights" rather than a "every single episode" rewatch. As a reminder, season 1 has:
1 "Premiere"
Okay, this is a must.
2 "I, E.T."
Unless I misremember, John is separated from the rest of the gang for most of the ep. I wouldn't, personally, but I don't have anything against it, so if there's a majority who wants to, I'd be game.
3 "Exodus from Genesis"
Opinions?
4 4 "Throne for a Loss"
The first Rygel ep. I don't recall it as stellar, but I do have a soft spot for Rygel, so I'll watch it. We don't have to discuss it, though, if you don't want to.
5 "Back and Back and Back to the Future"
Opinions?
6 "Thank God It's Friday, Again"
Important for D'Argo's background, I guess.
7 "PK Tech Girl"
Aka the one which convinced me to stick with the show. Love it. Must rewatch it.
8 "That Old Black Magic"
The anti-"Arena" for Crichton and Crais. If anyone wonders why people later have a hard time trusting good old Bialar... Anyway, yes?
9 "DNA Mad Scientist"
Absolutely, yes. One of the most gut wrenching as I recall.
10 "They've Got a Secret"
Opinions?
11 "Till the Blood Runs Clear"
Debut of Furlow and the phrase "the radiant Aeryn Sun". Don't have a strong either yes or no opinion.
12 "Rhapsody in Blue"
Arguably the most improtant Zhaan episode. Definitely a yes.
13 "The Flax"
One for the John/Aeryn shippers, and important for continuity, so yes.
14 "Jeremiah Crichton"
Ha. No.
15 "Durka Returns"
And Chiana debuts. Definitely a yes.
16 "A Human Reaction"
Not even a question. Yes.
17 "Through the Looking Glass"
Opinions?
18 "A Bug's Life"
Yes, and not just for the leather.
19 "Nerve" (Part 1)
All hail Scorpius. Naturally.
20 "The Hidden Memory"
Ditto.
21 "Bone to Be Wild"
A breather before the finale, which I recall as good, so yes.
22 "Family Ties"
Naturally.

Date: 2020-04-01 07:42 am (UTC)1. "Premiere" - definitely.
2. "I, E.T." - not really needed.
3. "Exodus from Genesis" - nope.
4. "Throne for a Loss" - can be skipped.
5. "Back and Back and Back to the Future" - no, it's mostly filler.
6. "Thank God It's Friday, Again" - definitely include this one, it's an early example of the trademark upending of expected dynamics and has a critical character moment for Aeryn.
7. "PK Tech Girl" - filler, can be cut.
8. "That Old Black Magic" - very important for Crais backstory/motivation.
9. "DNA Mad Scientist" - 100% must watch. Through one's fingers if necessary.
10. "They've Got a Secret" - sets up multiple plot threads for the next two to three seasons, so probably important.
11. "Till the Blood Runs Clear" - has character development and Furlow, definitely a keeper.
12. "Rhapsody in Blue" - not a strong arc episode, can be omitted.
13. "The Flax" - more plot-relevant than it looks at first, and has Rhys Muldoon, so definitely watch this one.
14. "Jeremiah Crichton" - let's not, and not even say we did. :)
15. "Durka Returns" - oooooooh yes.
16. "A Human Reaction" - see above.
17. "Through the Looking Glass" - yes, for the brilliant acting in the multiple body-swaps.
18. "A Bug's Life" - don't mind one way or the other.
19. "Nerve" - yup.
20. "The Hidden Memory" - can't have one without the other!
21. "Bone to Be Wild" - yes, among other things for the first appearance of Lt Braca, who will end up being surprisingly important.
22. "Family Ties" - can't do without it.

Date: 2020-04-01 01:58 pm (UTC)I vote for skipping I, ET and Exodus From Genesis. Don't have an opinion about Through the Looking Glass. They've Got A Secret sets up some plot threads for later, and Throne For A Loss is important not only for Rygel reasons but because the Tavleks come back in Liars, Guns and Money.
I am glad that we all agree that we are not subjecting ourselves to Jeremiah Crichton. Once was more than enough.
