En route again, but sadly to no pretty, glamorous place (forgive me, citizens of Herbrechtingen and Bruchsal), and for professional reasons. Also, I might have an unpleasant encounter later tonight.
On the bright side of things, ficathons one did not participate in are fine, not guilty conscience inducing, and deliver goodness to the reader. The X-Men ficathon being a case in point. Here's what I found especially good while browsing through various stories in a hurry, due to limited time online:
"Children's Crusade". Remember that post a week ago about secondary loves, with a mention of my primary love? Here they are happily and angstily united. Charles Xavier and Scott Summers, and making hard choices for a lot of people. Great characterisation of both, as well as being a glimpse at the daily workings of the school when there is no immediate crisis.
"Ode To Joy": okay, this one I actually knew because I was able to provide some linguistic assistance, but I thought it rocked then, and I do think so now. Kurt and Mystique, post-X2.
"Awakening" is about Jean and Charles and the growth of Jean's powers during X1 and X2. Did I mention I like the non-shippy, family relationships among the mutants? Here's another very important one.
****
From another fandom altogether: a great Darla/Angelus vignette, set shortly after the flashbacks from Prodigal.
