Found a delightful Dr. Who story, gen, set post-Boom Town as Rose deals with what happened between Mickey and herself. Terrific Rose-Jack interaction, ditto for Jack-Doctor. Everyone is written very well here, but Jack especially stands out: "Times Like These".

One of the great things about Alias is that the show offers several interesting middle-aged women. Starting with SpyMommy, of course, but someone I love as much as the fascinating Irina is her quieter counterpart, Arvin Sloane's wife Emily. So I was glad to see a new Emily story and got inspired to answer this week's [livejournal.com profile] alias500 challenge with Emily myself:

"Marriage"

Set in late season 1, but with a spoiler for the season 4 episode "In Dreams".

It's a question that comes up every now and then: why does Padmé love Anakin? My own take on it is pretty much similar to [livejournal.com profile] thalia_seawood's, which is why I was glad to read her post here.

Thanks for linking to that Dr Who story. That's way above the usual fan-fic standard. She's a good ear for voices, especially Rose.

She has Jossverse and Star Trek practice, and is good in all those fandoms. I was delighted to see she writes Who fic now.

Yay! And a delightful story it is, too. Loved the banter as well as the more serious moments between Rose and Jack, and of course, the Doctor/Tardis 'shipping.*g*

Hear, hear for Alias being in love with women of a certain age -- and better yet, women who have not been pulled, tucked, lifted, botoxed and paraffined into death masks of their 22-year-old selves. Even the unearthly-beautiful Lena Olin and Angela Bassett bear the lines of time. The very few glossy, wrinkle-free older women who appear in the show (I'm thinking of Faye Dunaway and Peggy Lipton) are invariably villains; the majority of them (Emily Sloane, Diane Dixon, Judy Barnett, Katya Derevko, etc.) are stunningly beautiful not in spite of looking their age, but because of it -- and are generally played as being emotionally complex, smart and strong in their own right. This should not be as rare as it is.

Oh yes. And you're right, this should not be as rare as it is. Also very rare in cinema - the only example of a female movie star who showed that a woman looks beautiful and attractive because of her age, not in spite of it, in the last decade or so I can think if is Susan Sarandon. But on tv? Almost unheard of. Let's hope Alias changes a few things.
