Fanfic goodness:

One superb coda to the Human Nature/ Family of Blood two-parter: The Human Heart, fantastic look at the Doctor and his motives.

If you, like me, are annoyed by "my companion is better than your companion" bashings going on - I mean, why play the Rose versus Martha game when one can just like or even love them both? - then the current Martha and Rose ficathon is just the thing for you. Companions unite! I'm biased, but honorh's Under the Skin is my current favourite.

Another gem coming from roleplaying: this month's fandom_muses prompt produced the best Dr. Who/Pirates of the Caribbean crossover crossover ever! (New Who only watchers: the prompt was "which story would you tell your grandchildren". The Doctor canonically had a granddaughter named Susan. That's all you need to know to enjoy this one.)

I'm with you on the whole "my companion is better than your companion" bit. Each companion has had their strengths and weaknesses and all of them serve their purpose. Having not seen all the doctors, I can't say that I'd love them all per se, but I will say that the Doctor is a big enough sentient to love them all in his way. Their contributions to the entire story (still unfolding) won't be known until the end of the series (whenever that comes). I can't imagine that any of them suck so badly that they won't have had at least one shining moment while they were with the Doctor.

Besides, Ace is cooler than both of them, anyway! (Just kidding, I like all three and Sarah Jane - they and Mel are the only ones I know - to varying degrees, so no problems here.)
