More of same
Jun. 18th, 2007 11:26 amSeveral viewings of Utopia later, and I'm still very much in the same place emotionally, to wit:
1) I probably should not find the sentence "Say my name" insanely hot, but I do. Also that the Doctor does say his name after.
2) Otoh, I don't feel guilty for still sniggering about the Martha 'n Jack snark/bonding about Blonde Privilege
3) Though the Martha moment which will go in my Grand Post Of Martha Adoration, which I shall write once this season is over, will probably be either "boys and their toys" or the small but Martha-typical fact that when everyone rushes into the laboratory, she notices poor Chantho on the floor right away and checks on her. Matha's doctor-ness is such a quintessential character trait for her.
And in conclusion: hopefully someone will make a "Sympathy for the Devil" vid about you-know-who once there is enough footage.

Martha is so awesome! I look forward to the post of Martha adoration.

I've always thought of it as a Seven song, but I know what you mean. There need to be more Doctor Who vids in general, or at least more that are not Doctor/Rose. (Not that I have anything against Doctor/Rose vids, I just mean that the subject seems well-represented.)

It works for Seven as well. But then, that's Seven for you and me.

Quite.

Date: 2007-06-18 02:09 pm (UTC)All we need now is a prison scene or two!
(Incidentally, the two of them have had a few great ones over the years, notably in The Sea Devils where the Doctor steals the Master's sandwiches during a sword fight ...)
Quite. calapine made some fabulous ones; my favourites are "Run with us" (Seven/Ace) her grand all Doctos all the time retrospective. The Master vid ("Man in Black", of course!) is hilarious.
I really should track down all of calapine's vids - I've seen some of them, but I somehow missed the Seven/Ace one!
I'm working on a Doctor Who vid for VividCon myself at the moment ...

Is there a Doctor v. The Master primer out somewhere?
Also, Martha, she rocketh my world.

Tongue in cheek take on the most popular incarnation of the Master, who was played by Roger Degaldo. The Doctor you see him with is the Third Doctor (Jon Pertwee, aka the fellow with the white curly hair), the Doctor's companion (a blonde (!)) is Jo Grant.
Also useful: The Master's official canonical opinion of the various incarnations of the Doctor. As you can see, he plays favourites:

Date: 2007-06-18 01:42 pm (UTC)Yes! Which is especially shocking if you know what a big deal he usually made of not calling the Master that to his face in the classic series.

His Wikapedia seems quite helpful. It even draws attention to the Roberts Master's incredibly gayitude *g*.
Also, Martha, she rocketh my world.
Martha Jones for President! Of what, I don't know.

Date: 2007-06-18 09:53 am (UTC)Speaking of conning: So... does that mean once we get more material in forms of situations where they're in the same room at the same time, you'll write Doctor/Master?

Date: 2007-06-18 10:37 am (UTC)Hmmn... Once I get over my grrrr-ness at the Tenth Doctor (the Jack in my head is mightily peeved at the moment) I just might! (Hmmn... do I have some kind of reputation here? ;) )

Date: 2007-06-18 10:55 am (UTC)Also, I must say the scene in the radiation room made me go aw. Being separated by glass makes for great emotional intimacy and admissions.
Reputation: is that a trick question?

my Grand Post Of Martha Adoration
There can never be enough Martha Adoration in the world. I think this is actually what makes this episode perfect: Martha, Ten and Jack, and Derek Jacobi and John Simm in one package.

Date: 2007-06-18 11:00 am (UTC)Me too. And then I'll get myself a hankerchief, look at the canon incest in one fandom (the couple in this icon, from Carnivale) and, err, the majority of fanfic in another, and resign myself to fate.

This is so true. Season 3 is quickly on its way to becoming my favourite season of New Who for those reasons...

Date: 2007-06-18 11:20 am (UTC)Well, Justin and Iris were always special, anyway, and I'm still steadfastly (steadfastly, I tell you!) ignoring the huge amount of fanfic in that other fandom, which is ever so slightly hindered by the fact that fandom at large has apparently decided that Nathan is only to be paired off with relatives, whether male or female - though I have yet to see anyone make good on Angela's Mrs. Iselin vibes, admittedly.
As for the Master and the Doctor, maybe one could make a plea for different cultural standards - they aren't human, after all.

Same here. I'm beginning to wonder if that is because I truly think Ten and Martha make a better combo than Ten and Rose (who were way too first grade together), or because the episodes are better as a whole, or because we thankfully didn't have any Cybermen yet.

Date: 2007-06-18 10:38 am (UTC)I'm sorry, is there ANYONE who didn't find that insanely hot? Because if so, I suspect they are not on my friendslist. Or, you know, breathing.

And John Simm is just like a rabid little animal when he regenrates. Cute, but rabid...

Date: 2007-06-18 05:41 pm (UTC)Rose: God, you should've seen 'em--Jack with that sonic blaster and the Doctor defendin' his screwdriver . . .
Martha: You know it's all about their--you know.
Rose: You ask me, they could've found a better way to settle it.
Martha: With you as referee?
(They giggle and burst into full-on laughter as the boys enter.)
Doctor: (to Jack) I don't like the looks of this.
Jack: I'll shut Martha up. You take the blonde.

Date: 2007-06-18 08:06 pm (UTC)"It's sonic!" and "sports car of time travel" - who but Jack Harkness could get the Doctor to utter such things?
