Dexter:

Tiny Monsters by [livejournal.com profile] linaerys takes on Dexter and Deb after the end of the world, and does justice to both of them and the scenario. Oh, Morgans. Spoilers for the entire first season of Dexter.

Dr. Who:

[livejournal.com profile] calapine, she of the splendid vids and great fanfic, tackles the Doctor and the Master in what promises the start of a 13-part-series: Domesticity. I so love dysfunctional Time Lords.

On a related note, [livejournal.com profile] vitruvian23 pointed out to me here that since according to HBP, the Muggle Prime Minister always gets his briefing from the Minister of Magic when he starts the job, one Harold Saxon would have received that visit, too. (You know, between his, err, other activities on his first day of office.) (And as Vitruvian says, it's relatively easy to get around the fact the HP books exist in the Who-verse.) Clearly, this is a fanfic challenge, people!

And speaking of crossovers, [livejournal.com profile] andrastewhite needs pinch hitters for the Multiverse ficathon, so if you are willing and able, sign on!

Someone's done a "Giles briefs the Prime Minister about the supernatural" Buffyverse story on similar lines, but I can't remember where I saw it.

(At least I think this is the story you are refearing to...)

Thank you for the rec, my dear! The reaction to this makes me want write more Dexter fic (and spend slightly longer on it)--there is a whole AU in my head about what would happen if Brian made a more appealing come on, if he found someone who needed to be killed for him and Dexter to kill together. That could get gratuitous, but it could also be interesting.

Anyway, thank you!

As long as it's not a simple "and then they killed happily ever after", it's bound to be interesting, especially when you write it. I don't think I could write Dexter fanfic myself, but I wrote some extensive meta - an essay about the supporting cast (http://selenak.livejournal.com/261777.html), and one about the Morgans and the Mosers (http://selenak.livejournal.com/262077.html) and how they mirror each other - and am always on the lookout for fanfic; Yuletide produced some excellent stories.

One of the many things I found so fascinating about the show is how, like Buffy, it used extraordinary circumstances to talk about ordinary human things. I think Dexter's disaffection, his difficulty dealing with feelings is something everyone feels to a certain degree, so by stepping outside humanity, we get a better view of humanity. I wrote more on this . . . somewhere.
