Vidding is an art, and some people do it terribly well. Given there's just been a convention, there are some neat results for the rest of us. Here are some of my faves:

The Moons of Jupiter - a great, great Tenth Doctor vid by [livejournal.com profile] fan_eunice, which aside portraying Ten gloriously demonstrates what I've always said: Doctor/TARDIS OTP! Their love rules all.

Of course, Doctor/Master has crept up on me and while not rivalling Doctor/TARDIS is my guilty vice. Space Dementia by [livejournal.com profile] nastally integrates New and Old Who footage beautifully, and you can see the emotional line from Delgado!Master and Pertwee!Doctor straight to the Simm and Tennant incarnations.

Speaking of vids that unite old and new incaranations of a fandom: Sickly Cycle Carousel by [livejournal.com profile] wolfling portrays Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker in prequels and classic trilogy alike. I'm that rarity of a Star Wars watcher, not that interested in Han Solo but very much interested in the Skywalkers and won over by Obi-Wan not initially in his benevolent Alec Guinness incarnation but when seeing him as actually flawed in his younger self, so this vid captures just what keeps me intrigued by Star Wars (except for Leia), and does so beautifully.

Thanks for the recs! Hmm. All the fandoms are unfamiliar to me, but I'll check the vids out anyway--I've enjoyed quite a few without knowing anything about the source material.

Have you seen Desert Rose (http://phoenixchilde.livejournal.com/433871.html)? Amazing Heroes vid. I've been pimping it here, there, and everywhere. :D

Yes, I saw, and it's beautiful.

Re: the vids, well, in the case of the two Dr. Who vids it probably helps to know at least that the Doctor is an alien from a species that changes bodies when the old one dies (he's in his tenth regeneration so far), and the Master is a member of the same species (ex (boy)friend and arch enemy for 900 years and counting), so the various guys USTing at each other in "Space Dementia" are actually the same two, and the reason "Moons of Jupiter" starts with him looking in the mirror is because that's when he's aquired a new body.*g*

And seriously? You don't know even the tiniest little bit of Star Wars?

Of course! XD

I've never seen a single movie. I kid you not. But I know some things! Things I know about Star Wars:

- "Luke, I am your father."
- Yoda speaks funny.
- Han and Leia had an incestuous crush. Or was that Luke and Leia? It was Leia and somebody, anyway.
- Samuel L. Jackson, Harrison Ford, Ewan McGregor, and that chick from "When Harry Met Sally" have been in the movies.
- The theme tune.
- Darth Vader is the bad guy, but he used to be a good guy.
- "Use the force, Luke!"

I'm sure I could think of more, but these are the things that come to mind first. :-)

ROTFLOL. It was Luke and Leia. They didn't know they were siblings when they met. Han is everyone's favourite rogue with a golden heart whom Leia ends up with.

So, you didn't know what [livejournal.com profile] cadesama and self meant when we speculated about Heroes pulling a Return of the Jedi ending of the season. Which they did, to wit: Vader (aka Anakin Skywalker) redeems himself by sacrificing his life to save Luke (and the galaxy) when Luke is about to die at the hands of the Emperor (the lightning-zapping dude, who's the ultimate bad guy in that universe. So, confounding expectations which were that Luke as the hero of the original trilogy would end winning the day via a duel Luke actually wins the day because he's the only one who believes there is still some good left in his father, who believes in Anakin/Vader, and thus saves Anakin's soul, while his father is the one who saves the day in terms of action (killing the Emperor at the expense of his own life).

Hence our, err, non-surprise when Nathan, etc.

That parallel *is* frighteningly appropriate.

The Luke/Leia/Han thing I know mostly from Harry Potter shipping wars (i.e. the parallel is Harry/Hermione/Ron. ROFL.)
