Jose Chung's The Lord of Time - absolutely priceless The X-Files/Dr. Who crossover, in which Fox Mulder meets the (Tenth) Doctor. The thing which makes it genius is that it's the Jose Chung version. (If, dear reader, you missed the X-Files episode Jose Chung's From Out Of Space - he's a bestselling author who wrote a thinly disguised account of Mulder and Scully's adventures, aka the writer of that episode, Darin Morgan if I recall correctly, had glorious meta fun.)

One Last Look , on the other hand, brings on the (good) angst in this take of Martha and the Doctor in the late 60s during Blink, as Martha convinces the Doctor to see one particular person again. Something for Old and New Who watchers alike.

This post has great First Doctor and Companions icons. One, Susan, Ian and Barbara in their black and white crispness. Check it out!

That's it. I'm going to have to start watching Doctor Who. Is it possible to jump in at, say, the Ninth Doctor and still know what's going on?

Oh absolutely. The Ninth Doctor has been designed as a restart, to allow newbies to come in without any pre-knowledge whatsoever. Also, the show has been very good about pleasing both old and new watchers by inserting background from the 40 years of canon in a way that is fun for both; for example, there is an episode named School Reunion (in the second season of New Who which is the 28th season of the show entire) where the Doctor and his companion Rose meet Sarah Jane, who used to travel with the Third and Fourth Doctor. This episode works if, like Rose, you have not the slightest idea who Sarah Jane is; you find all you need to know like Rose does in the episode itself. For Old Time watchers, otoh, who have seen Sarah Jane in the 70s, there is the additional kick of thinking "omg, Sarah! Wow, Elisabeth Sladen (= the actress) still looks great and rocks!", and you're bathed in nostalgia. So, both new and old watchers win!

That sounds brilliant. I wanted to watch Dr Who after seeing Eccleston on Heroes, but was a bit daunted by the fact that it's been on forever. Thanks!

Also, OT

Don't know whether you've read it, but [livejournal.com profile] futuresoon's big Petrelli backstory, so far in three parts, is fabulous!
