No train strike tomorrow, which is good for me, but Darth Real Life is even hunting me down during the weekend, which is not. So, in brevity:

Quite frankly the uproar re Dumbledore strikes me as very funny. I could certainly see the subtext in book 7 - making it text just made me go 'of course!'

(And she didn't even say anything about 'one time...' *g*)

I adore the way she addresses the goat question...

My opinion on the Dumbledore question remains this: would I wish for more obvious signs that there are alternatives to heterosexuality (or even a sex life that is not inextricably linked to marriage) in the Wizarding World? Of course. I just didn't expect it to happen, since the books have always struck me as being on a very safe, non-controversial side of liberal. I mean, it's not like JKR would be paying more than lip service to racial diversity, either. So I'd say, making one of the most important characters in the books gay, even in hindsight, is extremely positive, not least since, being the author's opinion, it can't easily be undone.

It also was apparantly important enough for her to insure that in the film version of HBB, Dumbledore doesn't wax nostalgically about a past girlfriend. And yes, I'm with you. Occasional remarks, say, about one of the students having two mothers or two fathers on the rare occasions the parents show up (during the World Wizarding Cup, say) or something like that would have been nice and served as a perfectly adequate nod to the fact not everyone in the WW is heterosexual. But I hadn't expected them in these novels.

Ah, but the fanfic has been written ever since the book was published! (There are several communities; grindledore being the most prominent.) Maybe she didn't find them, though? *g*
