One of the first requests which Mohinder makes once he starts working in the lab they gave him isn’t for anything scientific.

Conclusions to be drawn from the above: Huh. I was less mono-fannish than I thought. Alias is still The Arvin Sloane Show, Co-starring The Bristows in my fanfic, I dabbled for the first time in Dr. Who and Torchwood and only the third or so time in X-Men, and what completely cracks me up about the Heroes examples is that Mohinder, whom I only warmed up to in season 2 and was more or less indifferent towards in season 1, scores twice by sheer luck of the draw, not to mention that my least favourite Heroes character scores once.
Moving on to
b) The other year in fic meme:
Favorite story this year: Heroes: Runaways. Which just was a blast to write and even got graced with fanart byfuturesoon.
My best story this year: Dreaming, though perhaps I'm too close to that one to judge; excepting it, either Runaways, Nowhere Man or Through A Glass Darkly.
Most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion:. No complaints this year, thanks. I mean, even the Simone story got feedback, and Simone is one of the least popular characters in (Heroes) fandom.
Most fun story: Campaign Secrets.
Sexiest story: Alas, I fail at sex. Even when I do write pairings, like Darla/Angel or Nathan/Meredith, there isn't any actual sex in them. The one story in which I was a bit tempted to include a threesome was Through A Glass Darkly, but it would have distracted from the point of the story, and besides, did I mention I fail at sex?
"Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story: Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. Lucy Saxon and her situation in Sound of Drums and Last of the Timelords demanded no less.
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: Nowhere Man. It made me feel oddly protective and affectionate towards the Torchwood team.
Hardest story to do: Not in the sense of writing it but in the sense of angsting about its reception: that would be "Nowhere Man" as well. Because it's a Owen point of view story, and Owen isn't just hated by most of fandom, I happened to know that the intended recepient of the story,astrogirl2, hated him as well. But this particular tale would not have worked with any other member of the Torchwood team in Owen's position within the story, because a) none of the others were as culpable for opening the Rift, and thus had that much to atone for, and b) none of the others would have allowed for the crucial parallel/contrast at the climactic scene. So Owen it was. Imagine my relief when Astro actually liked the story!
Biggest surprise: The only game in town, because it's a Mohinder story. Mohinder was on my list of most expendable and uninteresting characters in s1, I fast forwarded through a lot of his scenes, and then s2 started and lo and behold, I was... intrigued? Fascinated? Yep, not too strong a word, by his storyline, in every episode he showed up in. And promptly wrote fanfic.
Most revealing story: About a character? Hm, perhaps Hell is (Noah Bennet) or On giving your heart to the dragon (Hiro). About me? Playback. Spot that paragraph where I vent my irritation about a certain type of fanfic.
A story I want remembered: Dreaming again.

I think I still like Runaways best, since it combines two 'verses I care about to varying degrees (I prefer Vol 1 of Runaways so far, and I don't think I can forgive Vaughan that one death). But Dreaming is one that doesn't really go away I've noticed. Have you seen Pan's Labyrinth? Not nearly the same tone, but they both have a distinct closeness to Alice in Wonderland, probably due to the very young heroine, and the fairytale settings.

I love Runaways better, too (hence listing it as "favourite"), but in terms of literary ambition, I'm proudest of Dreaming. Yes, I've seen Pan's Labyrinth (and recently was fascinated by the way

That one death was basically the only thing I was spoiled for, so I kept expecting it all through Vaughan's run!
I got spoiled for it shortly before I got the issue in which it happens, in a completely different context. I wasn't overjoyed, to say the least (both about being spoiled and about the content of the spoiler). I'll probably stick around until the first few Whedon issues, to see where he goes with it, but it lost quite a bit of appeal for me.

I'd say that is warranted. *g*
(and recently was fascinated by the way [info]futuresoon pulled off a Heroes version, because a less likely candidate for Ofelia than Nathan I couldn't imagine)
I haven't read that yet, because both this specific character (Nathan, in this case, although I do care a lot for Ofelia) and the original version mean so much to me. I also have trouble seeing a boy in this situation, it seemed a specifically female story to me in some way. (I guess because the main characters in this type of tale are very commonly young girls?)
The Gaiman influence is notable, but I'd say that Coraline is in turn influenced by Alice and older fairytales in the same manner, and those also informed Pan's Labyrinth, so it all goes back to the same roots.
