From [livejournal.com profile] bitterbyrden. I went to imdb.com, and looked up the keywords for ten of my favourite films. Now you guess which ones they are. I tried to avoid the keywords that would have made it too obvious, and some I included because they, while accurate, completely cracked me up when I found them used for these particular movies.

1) Dysfunctional Family + Italian Food + Catholic Church + Fish - The Godfather, first guessed by [livejournal.com profile] wychwood

2) Plundering + Clock + Personality Cult + Interrogation + Illegitimate Son - Lawrence of Arabia, first guessed by [livejournal.com profile] estepheia

3) Murder + Experiment Gone Wrong + Owl + Box Office Flop - Blade Runner, first guessed by [livejournal.com profile] elyssadc

4) Chicago Illinois + Toothache + Technique + Dying Words - Citizen Kane, first guessed by [livejournal.com profile] elyssadc

5) Loss of Mother + Employer Employee Relationship + Fire + Landowner - Gone With The Wind, first guessed by [livejournal.com profile] gehayi

6) Dysfunctional Marriage + Power Struggle + Christmas - The Lion in Winter, first guessed by [livejournal.com profile] estepheia

7) Loss of Friend + Typewriter + Male Rear Nudity + Injustice - The Lives of Others (Das Leben der Anderen), first guessed by [livejournal.com profile] faroutgal

8) Interracial Relationship + Desert + Moral Ambiguity + Drug - The English Patient, first guessed by [livejournal.com profile] ide_cyan

9) Movie Director + Washed Out + Cross Dressing + Smiling - Ed Wood, first guessed by [livejournal.com profile] bwinter

10) Flat Tire + Tuxedo + Delusion + Famous Line - Sunset Boulevard, not guessed by anyone!

...is #9 Ed Wood?

From: [identity profile] selenak.livejournal.com
Yes, it is! *beams J. Depp's smile as Eddie*

On the odd chance there's another Depp movie in the list: is #10 Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas?

Date: 2008-02-20 07:43 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] selenak.livejournal.com
No. He's only in one of the films on the list.*g* 10) is an all time classic that was already quoted when JD learned to spell...

Is #6 It's A Wonderful Life?

Date: 2008-02-19 08:54 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] selenak.livejournal.com
No. You know, I still haven't watched It's a Wonderful Life, though I always plan to, but I do know roughly what it is about, and - you'll get the joke once someone has figured out #6...

*before looking at other comments*

1 - is that the Godfather? Sleeping with the fishes, and all? *g*
2 - For some reason, I want this to be Heroes. Although, uh, not a film...

I think that's me done, though! I know we don't tend to watch the same films, so I'm not surprised to do badly.

Yes, #1 is The Godfather, and I had a hell of a time finding key words that didn't contain "mafia" or "hit men" or something glaringly obvious like this. But I figured "fish" was a fair clue.*g*

LOL about 2 & Heroes, though if Heroes were a film, wouldn't it have the key word "illegitimate daughter", not son?

I did also think of the "son" vs "daughter" thing! But it was surprisingly close as a match anyway - I think probably the clock was the bit that caught me.

If the meme had been about tv shows instead of films, that would have been the most likely candidate for those key words...

Is #3 Fire, Walk With Me?

And I have a serious feeling that #4 is Citizan Kane.

Dude. I'm an idiot. #3 is totally Blade Runner. The whole robot owl thingie.

Date: 2008-02-20 05:20 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] selenak.livejournal.com
Right on both counts - i.e. #4 is Citizen Kane and #3 is Blade Runner. Poor old Blade Runner, having "box office flop" as a key word. But it was at the time...

5) Revenge of the Sith?
8) The English Patient?

Date: 2008-02-20 05:22 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] selenak.livejournal.com
5) No, but you know, "employer employee relationship" would make a hell of a lot more sense for Revenge of the Sith than for the movie in question. I couldn't believe it when I saw those keywords.

8) Yes! It is indeed.

From: [identity profile] wee-warrior.livejournal.com
1) is obviously the Godfather and 9) totally sounds like Ed Wood, but seriously, these are hilarious.

8) is not Dune, is it?

Date: 2008-02-20 05:23 am (UTC)

No, it's not, but it has been identified by [livejournal.com profile] ide_cyan now. You're right about 1) and 9)!

The English Patient. Of course. (I mean, all words have something to do with the movie, in a way.)

And it took me a moment to remember the owl in Blade Runner.

10 - Bonfire of vanities ?

2 Lawrence of Arabia

6 is of course The Lion in Winter.

I remember your post on Katherine Hepburn as Eleanor of Aquitaine.

From: [identity profile] selenak.livejournal.com
Trust you to identify both Lawrence and Eleanor. Yes to both, but no, 10) isn't Bonfire.

I don't remember a toothache, but everything else about #4 makes me think of Citizen Kane.

Fire and Landowner together make me think of the shell of Tara and the burning of Atlanta. Is #5 Gone With The Wind?

6) Makes me think of The Lion in Winter. Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine at their Christmas Court have to be the most dysfunctional couple EVER.

Date: 2008-02-20 05:27 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] selenak.livejournal.com
You're right about all three and the first one to identify Gone With The Wind!

(Toothache: Susan has one - or pretends to - in the night she meets Charles Foster Kane.)

1, The Sopranos - I'll still go with my first guess because it wasn't until second reading, I realized it was movies only. My mistake. It's obviously the Godfather.

2, A Clockwork Orange

3, Gigli? (shooting in the dark with this one)

4, no idea.

5, Gone With the Wind

6, The War Of the Roses

7, Er.. it sounds like that Ewan McGregor movie which I've forgotten the title where he and his three friends plot and scheme to keep the millions their dead houseguest left behind.

8, Haven

9, no idea

10, a James Bond movie - Casino Royale springs to mind...

That's Shallow Grave, but if it's the answer, I wouldn't have guessed it from [livejournal.com profile] selenak's choice of keywords. (Also, he only has two friends: Christopher Eccleston and Kerry Fox.)

You're right about 5) - it's "Gone with the Wind". No about all the other guesses. The Ewan McGregor movie you mean is "Shallow Graves", but no, that isn't it.

My favourite list of hitwords for a movie:

Hit in crotch + Sword And Sorcery + Sequel Mentioned During End Credits + Crucifixion

This is for the shockingly bad "The Sword and the Sorceror" - which is pretty much non-stop hits to the groin, sometimes for laffs, sometimes for SERIOUS, and the occasional crucifixion. I mean those terrible keywords are actually accurate. I highly recommend it, especially to people who feel bad about their accomplishments.

I'm going to guess The Lives of Others.
