Fannishness
Feb. 22nd, 2008 01:59 pmYou know, last season, I watched each episode of Torchwood only once and later rewatched individual ones because of fanfic research, not for pleasure. This season, otoh, I rewatched To the Last Man and Reset the day after, and now Dead Man Walking? Despite the two bits I nitpicked in my review, I, um, rewatched it three times already. It really pushed buttons for me, I suppose.
On that note: an interview with Burn Gorman, in which he fanboys Patrick Stewart, votes for more naked Captain Jack and talks about the privilege of meeting the actor who played Boba Fett at conventions. There's also TW discussion which should please critical fans like

NRAMA: Now pardon me for saying so, but I really thought the first season of Torchwood was truly uneven. I thought there were some wonderful episodes, like “Out of Time,” but the ending for “Cyberwoman” was bad, really bad.
BG: Absolutely. I agree with you. My feeling is they didn’t know, they weren’t sure, about the world of Torchwood. They knew it was an Earth-based organization; alien hunters, and finding out about alien technology, and based in Cardiff. But they were not sure about the dynamics of the team. We went in blind with very little information on our end apart from Jack and the Doctor, and they were sort in the backstory.
I think one thing was the first season kind of dwelt too much on the team’s shortcomings as opposed to the team working together, although that was interesting in the end. This led to inconsistencies that became slightly jarring. I think we really tried to address that since then.
NRAMA: Also, the only one who seemed even the most remotely level headed was Eve.
BG: Well, Owen, let’s be honest, is an ass. He is arrogant and unable to express his emotions. But as we go on, we start to see him grow. What we learn is he’s very passionate about his profession. He is a doctor. He has taken the Hippocratic oath. He is also very passionate about being in Torchwood.
Speaking of actors who are fanboys: the Catherine Tate interviews David Tennant thing on the BBC was priceless. They're effortlessly charming and hilarious together (which makes me look forward more than ever so season 4). Highlights were DT being scandalized about CT's lack of sci-fi knowledge, passionately defending Old Who, and telling his meeting Richard Schiff (of West Wing fame - DT confesses himself to be a big West Wing fan) anecdote. Oh, and reminiscing about Blackpool. *g*

Date: 2008-02-22 03:54 pm (UTC)As for rewatching S1 TW, it's weird. I've watched Ghost Machine, Countrycide, and They Keep Killing Suzie more times than I can count. But I can barely even remember some of the other episodes. I guess it's a reflection on how seriously crappy a lot of it was. The good eps were good enough to keep me coming back, though.
the (Seventh) Doctor and Ace, my favourite Doctor and Companion team.
YAY!!!! Next to Two/Jamie, they are my favorite as well.

Verily. And I can't even remember the name of the New Zealand fellow who played Jango (and hence also Boba) in the prequels despite the fact he actually got a personality, not just an armour...
