Don't mess with my ship!
May. 21st, 2008 10:52 amI'm not going to review Zagreus, for lack of time, but I will say it's probably telling about my priorities that the (Eighth) Doctor/Charley melodrama left me cold whereas the temporary Doctor/TARDIS break-up was most upsetting. They're the one true DW OTP, damn it. And even when they're both under the influence of these audio's plot device, an argument in which the TARDIS manifests herself looking like the Brigadier in order to have this type of dialogue with the Doctor is... well, I'll attempt to render it in short form:
TARDIS: So you had the choice of either letting yourgirlfriend companion die, who, by the way, is SUPPOSED TO BE DEAD, or kill yourself and me in order to repair the damage her existence caused to time, and you chose killing yourself and me. THAT HURT!
Doctor: You're jealous? (This, btw, is not a paraphrase, he actually says that.)
TARDIS: Did I mention how sick I am of the neverending parade of girls you bring home? I've been with you forever and always been faithful and you keep doing this to me, and then you condemm us both to a painful death for one of those stupid girls. That's it. I'm quitting! And taking a page from your evil ex-boyfriend's book by stringing you up naked in an imaginary dungeon and torturing you while I still have the "I'm a split personality now due to the plot device of the week and am venting my inner Hyde" excuse!
Doctor: ....Go ahead. I'll try to soothe your feelings by going utterly insane at the prospect of losing you entirely when the villain of the week melts you in front of my eyes after you tortured me. I wonder whether this is a behavorial pattern I'll keep up in future regenerations?
Thankfully, I listened to Medicinal Purposes next, which has its own set of problems but opens with the Doctor telling Evelyn why he loves his TARDIS best and more than all companions and always will. Zagreus is to me what Doomsday is to Rose/Doctor 'shippers, I tell you!

I love how coy the answer is.

Date: 2008-05-21 09:12 am (UTC)Really? That's *brilliant*! (I too am a Doctor/Tardis shipper. And Doctor/Master of course, but that is a completely different thing.)

But the Doctor flipping out at the prospect of losing her altogether helps, and at the end she recovers faster from the split personality plot device than he does, and helps him recover, too.

I'm guessing The Doctor doesn't try to impress the men as much, nor is in danger of falling in love with them... and if The Tardis is female, she might like the male companions?

Date: 2008-05-21 11:02 am (UTC)I never knew that - fandom *failed* me!!!
Well, there was the indisputed love of Two/Jamie: Pictorial Evidence.
Thank you so much for that - I am so lacking in Old Skool knowledge - but then I can barely keep up with Nu Who...
But I suppose the TARDIS could be a slasher...
Now that's an interesting idea. :)

Date: 2008-05-21 10:31 am (UTC)(Also, in that audio, before the TARDIS loses it and has this rant, the Doctor, who since he's Eight has of course memory problems while also having the Jekyll and Hyde problem addresses her, while trying to pull himself together, as Bessie.
...
...no wonder she loses it!)

Date: 2008-05-21 04:53 pm (UTC)Also, don't worry. At the end, the TARDIS recovers first from the Jekyll/Hyde MacGuffin and helps the Doctor recover, and they are in harmony once more. But th PAIN EARLIER!

Date: 2008-05-21 06:40 pm (UTC)I cried. Hard. SO NOT EVEN KIDDING. I couldn't BELIEVE the TARDIS did that and then killed herself and it was all so horrible and gutwrenching and I am SUCH a big sap but it really was heartbreaking. And Courtney did such an amazing job of playing it, I really felt like it was the TARDIS saying all that and...ugh. I need the Doctor and the TARDIS to never ever break up again. EVER.
