Torchwood:
The right kind of doctor: set between seasons 1 and 2, this is a portrait of Owen and his relationships with Ianto, Gwen and Tosh respectively. I love stories set in the Jack-less time, not because I have anything against Jack but because that was when these people actually became a team. The voices here are great, and all ring true; above all, it renders Owen in his prickly, dysfunctional yet trying to be more glory.
Lost:
The mouth that lies, slays the soul: not surprisingly with this title, this deals with the Oceanic 6, Desmond, Penny, Charlie, Michael, Frank and Ben. Spoilers for all of season 4. Harsh and beautiful.

Date: 2008-07-02 03:42 pm (UTC)And hey, thank you. Nowhere Man was one of the most rewarding Multiverse crossovers to write, though I fretted terribly about it, since I knew the recipient hated Owen back then. But he had to be the pov character, several of the key scenes wouldn't have worked with anyone else, so I could see no way around it. Thankfully, my recipient was an open-minded soul who despite her dislike for the character enjoyed the story. (And ironically became fond of Owen in s2 in time for him to die on her. I think she still blames me a bit.)

Date: 2008-07-02 04:18 pm (UTC)Awesome. And... oh my, that one is lovely, too. I could just strangle Rusty for not having the sense to do whatever was needed to keep Burn Gorman on the show...

I still have the hope that at the end of the next season, Owen will make a dramatic cliffhanger return, as his second death was a clear echo of Dr. Manhattan's origin story in Watchmen and the writers of this show are geeks. I mean, it's not a coincidence they gave Owen the most meaty character development as they knew what they had in Burn Gorman.

Date: 2008-07-02 04:38 pm (UTC)It would all depend on Burn's schedule, I suspect, and from what I've seen he's a pretty successful guy. For good reason, as you said... damn but he's a fine actor. Too good for Torchwood, but I love the character enough that I hope he'll be back anyway.
And I really have to ask you to stop using increasingly adorable Owen icons. The last thing I need is getting fic-bunnied in the middle of a work day! ;)

Date: 2008-07-02 05:02 pm (UTC)Your Doctor/TARDIS icon is just too adorable, and so true. Even if you disdain my pretty Gwen. Have some appropriate Three era icon instead.

Date: 2008-07-02 05:08 pm (UTC)Thanks! What can I say - Gwen is just not as pretty as Owen, even if she does have lovely impossibly huge eyes. And since I am short on either Delgado or Pertwee icons, I'll have to go with Ainley for this. Because canon!Master/Doctor is just too much fun.

Date: 2008-07-02 05:26 pm (UTC)Mind you, I still prefer Mind of Evil and The Sea Devils when it comes to canon Master/Doctor, but The Time Monster comes in third, no question about it. And yes, pity the Brig. He also has to listen to a "when we were messing up each other's experiments at school..." story. Jo, otoh, is used to the Doctor confiding about his evil ex and takes it with aplomb. Also, she has one of the best lines when she and the Doctor meet the Master again after escaping from his latest trap: "How about a 'curses, foiled again' ?"
*uses Three and Jo icon, which ends Pertwee era icons*

Date: 2008-07-02 09:14 pm (UTC)I'm excited, now - I have the VHS of The Sea Devils at home, but we've been waiting to watch it until after the current series is over!
Sounds like Jo has quite a grasp on the Master's character by now. And a better sense of humor than I'd have credited her with from the one episode I've seen with her so far. Yay!
*has to go back to Daleks - alas, not enough old!Who icons that aren't Four, Five, or Romana!*

Date: 2008-07-03 04:00 am (UTC)Anyway, back to Jo - she's great in Sea Devils, Mind of Evil and Time Monster alike, proving a companion can absolutely hold her own in terms of audience attention while the Doctor/Master shenanigans are going on. You'll see.
