Doctor Who:
Run: I waited till this was finished as I try not to rec works-in-progress. It's a story about Jenny and the Doctor meeting again some time post season 4. Now, since her appearance there have been several good stories written about Jenny, mostly going for the comedy potential of Jenny meeting one or several of the Doctor's old friends and foes, and some more serious character exploration (I recall one that pulled off Jenny meeting what remains of Astrid wonderfully well). And I enjoyed these. But what I was really hoping someone would write was a story in which a) Jenny's background of on the one hand having a soldier imprint and on the other a Time Lord heritage would be explored and b) her relationship with the Doctor would be developed and focused on (especially since we haven't seen him in this type of relationship since Susan). Guess what? This now finished story does both, and I really enjoyed reading it, and am still feeling like hugging the author for giving me my wish.
So recently I waxed in a post about just why I love season 4/30 so very much.
torn_eledhwen managed to sum up the reasons much better, briefer and brilliantly in fiction, by writing season 4 in drabbles, from Voyage of the Damned to Journey's End, one for each episode, and both Donna and the Doctor are perfectly captured in every entry.
Heroes/Doctor Who crossover:
A while ago I wrote my own version of what the characters from Heroes did during The Year That Wasn't, which is a concept that fascinates me, so I'm always glad to see someone explore it: One year's time focuses on Claire and Elle (but uses other cast members as well), and does it very, very well.
Speaking of crossovers (at least of the musical kind): if, like me, you are both a Highlander fan and a Doctor Who fan, you will be so very, very amused by this Three/Delgado!Master vid. (If you haven't the slightest idea about Highlander: the Series, you'll still enjoy it. The joke for HL fans lies in the music.)
Watchmen: really neat comparison of the film's posters with the original drawings. The attention to detail is breathtaking. Could this be the one to finally break the Alan Moore film version curse? (Though V for Vendetta wasn't bad, actually, and my main emotional problem with it is entirely due to something faithfully taken from the book. We won't talk of those other films, though.)

Date: 2008-08-16 08:46 am (UTC)I just hope Warner allow him to release the 3+ hour cut he wants to - even if only for the DVD. Interesting Idea of releasing the animated Tales Of The Black Frighter along side the movie as well, then cutting it back in for the DVD. If he does what he wants to we are talking a monster 4 hour DVD release - but not a bad thing for depth of story telling.
He certainly has the look down - but I just hope the actors and script can be a nailed ...
