It seems a certain theatrical collaboration will also provide us with more photos of the gentlemen in question. The headline cracks me up, because well, that's no news if you're familiar with Magneto and Xavier in either comic- or movieverse. *g*

Speaking of comics, I've caught up with some of the build up to Secret Invasion which I had saved my money on previously (it's been translated into German now and hence available in train station shops to browse through), and say what you want, but Brian Bendis really thrives when he gets to do unlikely team-ups and superheroic bickering. In Mighty Avengers #10, titled "Time is on no-one's side", Tony Stark, the Sentry and Victor von Doom (whom Tony was about to arrest) have ended up accidentally time travelling (don't ask). I'd never thought I'd enjoy something with the Sentry in it, but this particular title is very entertaining, from Tony cutting a grandiose Doom-speech short as soon as he realizes what happened (i.e. the time jump) with "cut the crap, Victor" (and it's interesting that he immediately calls him Victor while addressing him as Doom in the present) to Doom going "my sophisticated armor is better than your sophisticated armor" to all of them having to break into Reed's lab.

om nom nom Magneto and Xavier. So I was reading Astonishing today, the new Warren Ellis run, and I was thinking how much I like the X-Men and then realized it's been a while since we saw Xavier and how I almost didn't miss him. Also Marvel is tagging their products with a special 70th anniversary brand. It made me think that someday when I'm very, very old, my kids might be reading X-Men comics with the X-Men being led by Molly Hayes and Armor and thinking to themselves 'Man, I haven't seen Cyclops in a while, I almost don't miss him...' Wonder if that'll really happen. It seems more likely than there ever being a permanent Bat-replacement for Bruce Wayne...

He, Xavier isn't around in AXM - and I do not really miss him there, either - but he does have his own title, Legacy. And was also very much around in the recent Illuminati. Which I think is a good choice - I mean, all the stories with Charles-the-flawed-mentor he is within the X-Men core group context are played out. Whereas Cyclops in the central position still has plenty of stories to tell. However, Illuminati proved among other things that Charles Xavier as a character within a group of peers where he is neither the teacher everyone looks up to nor the teacher who has disappointed still has a great deal of potential. And it's not an endless replay of the Malcolm X/Martin Luther King struggle with Magneto, either, because there are other issues on the table.

...also? I like the idea of the X-men being long enough around for Armor and Molly Hayes to be the leaders and Cyclops the old mentor who has wandered off to have his own story elsewhere!

Bruce Wayne: yes, I'm not buying that one, either. Look what happened to Azrael.

Marvel puts out so many titles. It will be unsurprising to you to know I did not know that. Although yeah, he was in Illuminati, it feels hard for me not to think there might be a day where this actually does happen and he passes on into the great character beyond.

I like the idea of the X-men being long enough around for Armor and Molly Hayes to be the leaders and Cyclops the old mentor who has wandered off to have his own story elsewhere!

I had to edit this last night because I forgot which of the Runaways was supposed to be a mutant! (Reasonably, all of them except for the dinosaur, the Skrull and the robot could be if their backgrounds didn't state they weren't.)

And the way the art changes when they're in the past! Tony being amazed that Doom has watched "Planet of the Apes"! It's just such excellent crack.
