You know, between [community profile] b5_revisited and the two B5 stories I wrote for ficathons I'm reminded how nice it is to revisit old fandoms. Like wearing a very comfortable, old pair of slippers. Being recced for Londo/G'Kar fic is just an added bonus.

Meanwhile, meme time!

Pick five of your favourite shows, in no particular order, before you read the below questions, then answer them!

1. The Sarah Connor Chronicles
2. Babylon 5
3. Doctor Who
4. Dexter
5. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

01. Who's your favourite character in 2?

Londo Mollari. Everyone is just staggered by surprise. Vir and G'Kar vye for second place, of course. I'm pretty fond of the rest, too, in varying degrees.

02. Who's your least favourite character in 1?

I don't really have one, in the sense of groaning when this character is on screen and wishing someone else was. They're all interesting, including characters that were targets for fandom dislike for some time, like Riley and Jesse. If we're talking regulars, I love Sarah, John and Cameron more than I do Derek, but I still hesitate to call Derek "least favourite" - I enjoyed his storylines too much, and felt for him when the show meant me to.

03. What's your favourite episode of 4?

Argghh. Really difficult. I think I'm going with the s1 finale, Born Free, not just for the Dexter-and-his-two-siblings drama but because the team was showcased as smart cops who tracked down Rudy/Brian just as Dexter did, though through different angles, with Angel, LaGuerta and Doakes all using the clues they found.

04. What's your favourite season of 5?

By and large... I think season 4. Though paradoxically the Klingon/Federation hostilities are my least favourite arc-relevant plot development, too obviously a gambit to justify adding Worf to the cast; the Dominion war later is much better as it flows from the show's own set-up. But season 4 has so many episodes I love, like The Visitor, Indiscretion, Rejoined, Little Green Men, Our Man Bashir, The Bar Association, Return to Grace, For the Cause, To the Death, The Quickening... in fact the only episode I don't like because it strikes me like a mediocre remake of an episode TNG did already and much better is Rules of Engagement. So yes, season 4.

05. Who is your favourite ship in 3?

The TARDIS, of course. :) Okay, I'll try to answer this one divided into categories:
a) Favourite overall relationship for Old and New Who alike, no matter how you define the nature of this relationship: Doctor/TARDIS. Sorry, this is not negotiable.
b) Favourite friendship, Old Who: Doctor (all of them) & Brigadier. I'm still holding out hope for the Brig to show up in New Who in more than comics, which is when I can extend this to all of DW.
c) Favourite friendship, New Who: Tenth Doctor & Donna Noble. Freckled BFFs for the win!
d) Favourite romance not involving the Doctor (all of DW): Ian/Barbara. No kidding. That post coital scene from The Romans is just too adorable for words.
e) Favourite romantic relationship involving the Doctor: should be either One/Cameca or Ten/Reinette, but I have to be honest: Doctor/Master, in Old and New Who alike. Theirloveissoscrewedupandcanonical.

06. Who is your antiship in 2?

Lo and behold, I'm spouting a majority opinion. Lyta/Byron. I've fast forwarded through their scenes on every single rewatch. I mean, there are other ships I'm not too keen on, but this one really is a no-brainer.

07. How long have you watched 1?

From the pilot to the s2 (and now series) finale. *sob* I had liked Sarah Connor from the movies, and Firefly had made me fond of Summer Glau, so they were the two reasons why I watched the pilot, was very pleasantly surprised, kept watching, and the rest is history. Alas.

08. How did you become interested in 3?

This is where it gets complicated. In my early twenties, I watched three Fourth Doctor era tales due to a friend who knew I was a B7 fan and wanted to share the other cult show of the era. I know the first one was The Talons of Weng-Chiang, then there was the one with Romana and the Daleks and Davros, and then there was City of Death.... and despite two of these being regarded as classics, they basically left me cold. A few years later, the same friend tried again with Timelash (because Paul Darrow was in it). I facepalmed, and was left cold again. Then [personal profile] watervole advertised some Big Finish audio plays, among them one with Jacqueline Pearce (Servalan in B7) as the villain, which was a Seventh Doctor and Ace adventure, The Fearmongerer. And lo and behold, I got hooked. I loved the play, I loved Ace, I loved this Doctor. And got out to get myself some Seven era adventures, which wasn't that easy, but by luck the first one I got my hands on was Curse of Fenric. I was even more enthralled. Fast forward a few years and some Seven era adventures watched in between, - and the tv movie of doom -, and New Who debuted. [personal profile] hmpf was a big Ninth Doctor fan. (So big that she's refused watching after Nine regenerated.) So she got me the first season. Which I liked enormously, and I did like Nine, but I didn't love him. Which helped with looking forward to Ten (and falling for him later), and in the meantime, I also did some more catching up on Old Who canon, through various sources, like [personal profile] cavendish who gave me an entire Three era season. Basically, I watched the Ten era and various Old Who eras simultanously or switching from one to the other, and am now most certainly a dedicated fan.

09. Who's your favourite actor/actress in 4?

Michael C.Hall, for sheer versatility, as I had seen him first as David Fisher in Six Feet Under. Dexter himself isn't my favourite character, btw, but Hall is awesome in selling me on two completely different characters by his acting alone. Julie Benz pulls of a similar feet with Darla and Rita, so this was a tough choice, but if I had the chance to see either of them in a stage play, it would be Hall, so that is that.

10. Which do you prefer: Show 1, 2 or 5?

Tough, as it pitches my two space stations against each other, something I always thought stupid when both shows were on the air and people tried to get partisans to only one watch one of them. I love both B5 and DS9 equally and refuse to choose. SCC I also love, but it had only two seasons - SOB!!!! - so the love isn't as proven and long time enduring as the one for my space stations.

11. Which show have you seen more episodes of, 1 or 3?

Over four decades of tv gives Doctor Who an unfair advantage here.

12. If you could be anyone from 4, who would you be?

I'm going with Dexter's answer to the same question: Angel!

13. How would you kill off your favourite character in 1?

Do I have a favourite character in 1? My Sarah, Cameron and John love is about equal. Well, for Sarah, we already have a semi-canonical death waiting in the form of cancer, something that still hangs over her, time jump or not. Perhaps that's masochistic, but I don't really want to change that in favour of one big shoot-out. Cameron, whether she downloaded into John Henry's old software or is still in her old chip together with him, has already evolved, so I'd go more in that direction and make her become the anti-Skynet together with John Henry. This would be both death and eternal life for Cameron the individual, and absolutely heartbreaking, and yet would achieve a future for humanity and AIs both. John? Also has a semi-canonical death hanging around his neck, by Terminator, and it seems inevitable either way, but I would let him die near whoever the next Sarah Connor is going to become, which I'd love to be Savannah Weaver, so he watches her and smiles while he dies.

14. Give a random quote from 1?

"In that case, would you pick up Savannah after her gym class, James?"

15. Which character from 5 would be a good guest star on 2?

Either Garak or Quark.

16. Would a 3/4 crossover work?

Sure. The Doctor is flexible that way. I'm thinking Six (beause his coat would fit right in); Peri wants some vacation time in the US, and he wants a mystery. Miami with Dexter in it is both!

17. Pair 2 characters in 1 that would make an unlikely but strangely okay couple.

Catherine Weaver/ James Ellison. What? Weaver thinks so, too.

18. Has 5 inspired you in any way?

It most certainly has. Both in the sense that it made me write fanfic and in the sense of giving me ideas for rl situations.

19. Overall, which show has a better cast, 2 or 4?

I have to go with 4 - Dexter - here. Really strong ensemble, and all of them immensely watchable. Much as I love B5, you could see Bruce Boxleitner's point when he admitted in the audio commentary of a certain s3 episode that having scenes with either Andreas Katsulas or Peter Jurasik kept one one one's toes, acting-wise, but scene with both of them at the same time meant "you could just as well be the wallpaper". (Well, unless you're Stephen Furst!)

20. Which has better theme music, 3 or 5?

The DS9 theme is just okay. (Voyager, though a weaker show, has a better theme music. TNG pinched its theme music from the movie score. Poor DS9 tried.) The Doctor Who theme, through all its modifications, is just as excentric as the show and unforgettable.
