Now here I was, looking for the first season of Alias, when mine eyes saw a familiar sight. The seventh season of DS9. What can I say? I'm a fan.

Which is why I review the first six episodes of season 7 here.

Speaking of space stations, poor Vir, as [livejournal.com profile] hobsonphile puts it.

But I can think of other, non Sci-Fi things, I swear. It's not even that difficult. Mary Borsellino, she who wrote Pretty Good Year which takes place in the LotR bookverse, now wrote a lovely exploration of Frodo post-Quest and pre-Grey-Havens in the movieverse, here.

On the less tender and more biting side of fannish activity, here's [livejournal.com profile] marinarusalka's take on Dumbledore. Should be of interest to both [livejournal.com profile] andrastewhite (pro-Dumbledore) and [livejournal.com profile] cadesama (anti-Dumbledore) in particular. I've always thought these Merlin types can't be trusted (yes, looking at you, too, old Obi-Wan Kenobi), but that's what makes them interesting.

And while we're at it, an essay about Gryffindor House. which doesn't make the usual fannish mistake of just reversing the "Gryffindor good, Slytherin bad" idea to "Slytherin good, Gryffindor bad" but just points out flaws and virtues alike.

Great DS9 reviews as usual. I nearly spilt my tea at the comment about James T. and the "sultry poses". Warn a person will you *g*. Totally with you on the Ezri love too, and I liked Jadzia so much that I was prepared to feel a little bit of replacement dislike, but Ezri was so interestingly different that she totally won me over.

Hate to tell you this but the B7 DVDs may be out soon! More expense...

...I'll believe it (about the B7 DVDs) when I see them!

I would have said this too...but there was a full page advert on the back of the current edition of SFX proclaiming they would be out on Jan 26th. That made me a little bit more optimistic that it was more definite, on the grounds that full page adverts on the back of SFX are likely to cost money, and piss people off if they are wrong.

I lent out some of my season 1 tapes a while back and now I'm not sure where they are. *sigh* I could do with this DVD release.

Damn! Obviously my faith in the power of advertising is misplaced. There must be some kind of contractual problem that's causing the endless delay.

From what I can make out, I think it's caught up in some disagreement between the rights owners and the people who are producing/distributing the DVDs about the content of the extras.

Sigh... I won't hold my breath for the release then. And I was getting so hopeful :(

There's an interview with the current rights holders from the end of last year here (http://www.blakes-7.co.uk/b7e/b7eint.shtml). When the DVDs were reannounced for January, I was convinced that this time it was going to happen, as it seemed that their concerns about the DVD extras had finally been put to rest. So it might be that something else is holding them up this time :-(

Your DS9 reviews are tempting me to find and re-watch this series (I stopped watching during Season 3/4 for reasons I can't really remember!).

I seem to check your lj every other day as I so enjoy your comments on, well, everything. I have taken the liberty of friending you - I hope that is ok?

you're welcome!

And DS9 is definitely worth watching. As with every show, it does have its weak moments now and then, but the overall quality is great.
