The Sarah Jane Adventures 4.01 + 4.02
Oct. 13th, 2010 08:39 amNot only will I miss Luke as a regular (though good to know he'll be back), I'll miss K-9 and Mr. Smith bickering. Snarky robot love for the win! Also, best good bye since Quark said re: Odo "that man loves me; it's written all over his back".
If Luke had to go as a regular, though, this was a way that makes sense. With all the emphasis on "boy genius" in the part, going a year early to Oxford is logical, and while the anxieties and fears the Nightmare Man preyed on were predictable, they were emotionally effective nonetheless. Joseph Lidster is reliable with the scary. The only thing I didn't see coming was that Rani's nightmare involves her betraying Sarah Jane after having to choose between Sarah Jane and a career; the imagery of being pulled into the tv was great. Clyde stuck in the fast food industry with an Alzheimer-riddled Sarah Jane was more expected (well, not the Alzheimer-ridden Sarah Jane part), but note that he was the one who worked out fastest and on his own he was dreaming. Luke fearing that his friends and Sarah Jane will simply replace him because they didn't see him as really human to begin with was again predictable but in a well-done way. Loved the scene with Rani when they're aware re: jealousy and pride, because yes, in real life the two intermingle.
And Sarah Jane gave him a beetle! (The Käfer car is called a beetle in English, too, right?) They're expensive now, which is ironic since they were produced as cheap cars, so I hope it won't get trashed by the first alien Luke encounters at Oxford.
In conclusion: I'll miss Luke and K-9, but am glad the show is back again.

Will be interesting to see where this takes the show...
