(Re-)watched some more Firefly. It gets more painful each time afterwards, because there is so much to love. Simon and River eating berries. Jayne and "Vera". The very special hell. (I maintain that Our Mrs Reynolds is an underestimated comic masterpiece by Joss.) Kaylee and her unabashed joy at eating. Mal and his issues. "Big damn heroes, Sir." Zoe and Wash, the most adorable advertisment for married bliss on TV ever.

Ease my pain, recommend me fanfic? Pretty please?

This article reviews a new HBO movie about the suffragettes, which reminds me yet again of the Out of Africa syndrom. (I.e. Out of Africa, the book, barely mentions Dennys Finch-Hatton. In the film, the love story between him and Karen Blixen takes center stage.) Remind me for a moment - are there any movies about famous women who didn't include a romance between the woman in question and whomever as a central story element?

A while back, I was raving about the immortal Charles Chaplin and his oeuvre. This article does the same.

Firefly fic recs

I think you'll like Tara LJC's stories (http://ljconstantine.com/fanfic/ff.html), who writes these long and plotty episode-like stories with great character voices. I particularly recommend "That Old Yeh Shen Story" and "Lex Talionis".

Tara also has a FF fic rec site called Cortex (http://fireflyrecs.diaryland.com/index.html). Also, both PolyRecs (http://bifictionalbedlam.slashcity.net/recs/index.html) and BSO (http://www.mirrordance.net/recs/firefly.html) has a Firefly section.

WORD on missing the show. It's been more than a year since the cancellation, so I've moved past the stage where it was physically painful for me to even think about it, but I still mourn for the show.

Thank you for all the recs. That helps. Well, until I've read everything - then I suppose it will make things worse.*g* Well, at least there's the movie to look forward to...

HawkMoth has some of the *best* Firefly fic around, including a wonderful gen Christmas story that feels like it should have been an episode.

Two recently read stories that I greatly enjoyed:

What it Means (http://swriters.slashcity.net/library/viewstory.php?sid=27) by [livejournal.com profile] tynantblue0162
Okay, it's sort of Jayne/Book, which sounds really strange and ooc, but it works. It really really does. It's short and sweet and messes with your perceptions in a way that is definitely of the good. Give it a chance. You'll like it.

The Teaser Pony (http://www.fanfiction.net/read.php?storyid=1585307&chapter=1) by mikelesq
Actually found on fanfiction.net, this is a great gen story that could easily be a nice long episode. Plotty McPlot, clever and spot on dialogue (I especially like River's voice), and the romantic interaction is about what it was on the show.

Remind me for a moment - are there any movies about famous women who didn't include a romance between the woman in question and whomever as a central story element?

Oh. Wow. Um, not that I can think of, though now I'll definitely be pondering it for a while. I can think of plenty of books, but movies, not so much. Huh.
