Just in case you were wondering whether I'm all tv squee these days: not so. This week's episode of one of my favourite shows, The Good Wife, let me down for the second time in a row.

Look, show, I am not INTERESTED in what an upstanding fine fellow Will is these days, not to be deterred from his true love for Alicia by temptresses from the past, and WHY ARE YOU WASTING LISA EDELSTEIN ON THIS ROLE? Seriously, it looks like Celeste is shaping up to be this season's Blake, i.e. a character who is written without the show's usual care as a one dimensional negative foil for one of the regulars who keeps coming back. Yes, Blake's ultimate purpose was to expose the Kalinda/Peter one night stand of days past, but before that we got a full season of scenes with him and Kalinda where I kept wondering what the bloody point was, and I don't want a replay of that again, especially not since Will is my least liked regular anyway. Now I'm not that deep in dislike that I can't see there were some things pointed out by this episode that weren't about Will's reformed wild boy of days pastness and his devotion to Alicia, to wit, that Alicia doesn't want him in her life in more than a sexual and of course in a professional capacity, hence her refusal to talk about feelings or to introduce him to her children. But the Will/Alicia relationship is my least favourite relationship of the show, so that's not much help. If we're to explore fall out from last season, can't we get more Alicia and Kalinda scenes, damm it? I'll also take fabulous Kalinda and Cary scenes, like the one from last week. Or awkward Alicia, Peter, kids scenes. Or ANYTHING BUT WILL CENTRIC SCENES. Come to think of it, the one Will and Celeste scene I did like was the one with Peter, despite the over the top way Celeste is written, because Peter's composure and dead pan reaction throughout was great to see.

More conflict of interests between Eli on the one hand and Will & Diane on the other: now that looks like more of a promising storyline, not least because Eli isn't poor Bond, the other character from last season who was written one dimensionally and only as a negative foil.

Diane rediscovers her inner idealist: went predictable, but was enjoyable to watch nonetheless. I love Christine Baranski in this role. And I am looking forward to the legal aid head showing up again on the show now that she's moved him into the building.

I think Lisa Edelstein is only signed for 3 episodes, which made me sad, but then again, the character is really one-dimensional despite her best efforts, so I won't miss Celeste.

I loved the three-way sniping with Will and Peter, with her enjoying the tension. I would really like for them to have Will this season reach out to Alicia and try to be a person with emotions, and then realise that he is essentially cold and unable to have what he wants with Alicia, and that she recognized this early on and just the brutality of being unable to change fundamentally, even for love.

The Good Wife has delivered so much good stuff, I'm willing to ride them out an entire season to see it improve.

And Will eaten by a bear.

I quite like Will as a character, but the storyline of his relationship with Alicia doesn't feel quite right to me either. The emerging angle of emotional availability and committment is a tricky one; not sure if a show the strength of which clearly are the non-romantic relationships can do it well enough.
