Your main fandom of the year?

An old one renewed with fannish intensity. If I look at the number of posts and, err, other writings devoted to one particular fandom, it's undoubtedly the Beatles.

Your favorite film you watched this year?

X-Men: First Class. It reignited my passion for the X-Men movieverse. Yes, it's flawed. But I saw it three times in the cinema and once on dvd already, and I can't say that about any of the other films I've watched, and in varying degrees enjoyed this year, good as they were.

Your favorite book read this year?

T'was the year of non fiction for me. Luck and Circumstance by Michael Lindsay-Hogg. As I said in my review of it, if you read a lot of memoirs you're aware of how interesting lives by no means equal the ability to write interesting books, and how ghost writers often create uniform "voices". Whereas MLH has style in addition to having a story to tell that touches on several areas of interest to me.:)

Not (yet) a book, but: this whole year [personal profile] rozk has been posting fantastic poetry, on subjects ranging from mythological to contemporary, and whether she's writing about the parents of the young women and men Odysseus killed upon his return to Ithaca or her eye operations, about zombies or Christopher Hitchens (current subject, and the poems are oh so layered, witty, biting, emphatic and without any nihil nisi bonum sentiment), each poem is a treasure. Her poetry is my other favourite book of the year, and every second day I can read more.

Your favorite tv show of the year?

Long term wise, Merlin. In a "loved that first season but have no idea whether they can keep it up", The Borgias.

Your best new fandom discovery of the year?

Sanctuary. I'm very glad I gave in to my curiosity and marathoned the first three seasons. Am currently gluttoning myself on fanfiction by dear friends.

Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?

Dexter, for reasons given already.

Your fiction boyfriend of the year?

He's far too young for me, but I'm going to miss Clyde Langer from The Sarah Jane Adventures dreadfully and hope he'll show up on the mother show one day.

Your fiction girlfriend of the year?

Helen Magnus.  She's immortal, an excentric scientist, heroic with a good deal of moral ambiguity mixed into it, and basically the third Doctor as a woman complete with companions, UNIT and her very own Delgado!Master. How could I not fall for her?

Your biggest squee moment of the year?

Annie, in 3.08 of Being Human, to Mitchell: "Do you have any idea how inadequate that sounds?"

It's the context, both of this show and of many a fandom with the tendency to excuse just about anything if it's done by a handsome white male who suffers prettily that made this such an exquisitely squee-worthy moment to me.

Your biggest fan anticipations for the coming year?

The Hobbit.  Season 2 of The Borgias. Season 5 of Merlin.  The new McCartney album. The Joss-directed Much Ado and of course The Avengers.
