Fringe 4.12
Feb. 13th, 2012 03:32 pmVery enjoyable episode. I don't have much so say about it - not because it wasn't good, just because it wasn't that kind of episode - but here's a spoiler cut just in case.
On going arc about Olivia regaining her Blueverse memories and the Fringe version of Hannibal Lecter being this season's baddie not withstanding, this was a neat case of the week story which showcased the Olivia-Walter-Peter dynamic I enjoyed so much in s1 and in most of s2 before the Olivia/Peter shipping started in earnest. Peter talking about how "his" Olivia gave him a family and a home captures that as well, and of course Walter's increasing stability and response to Olivia and Walter as his kids.
Mind you, if they drag out Peter's realisation that there is no separate Blueverse and the Amberverse is the real deal much longer I'll be annoyed and conclude it is just to give Walter more angst (now that he's re-bonded with Peter which means he'll be in agony over losing him again, yet of course can't repeat his original sin of son stealing). But here it still fit, andn the episode also played fair with the brief "is Olivia affected?" fake out by letting the audience, via her dream at the start, be reminded she has those Peter Bishop memories bouncing around in her subconscious way before everyone comes to Westfield.
The fate of Westfield probably means our villain's evil scheme du jour is to merge the Redverse withe Amberverse, with the eye of the hurricane principle being how he's planning on survival. Just why he'd want that I have no idea, but you know, it's a thing for many an Abramsverse villain.
Trivia that I love: Olivia handing her weapon immediately to Peter when suspecting she might be affected (and retrieving once it's clear she's not). Because it's the logical thing to do, but too often tv people don't do that.
