Fringe 4.14
Feb. 25th, 2012 02:07 pmIn which a possible future of humanity is revealed, and it is bald.
Also apparantly without women, and with a early 20th century fashion sense. Look, if we develop into Time Lords, I should hope we get to be the multicoloured outrageous hat variety at last. Ah well, September said "one possible future".
This episode had me frowning a lot and then not anymore, as the seeming emphasis of romantic love over family love was revealed to have been a cunning plan of Olivia's as she had figured out she was being tricked re: Nina. So I was good with that plot thread, but unfortunately September in the other one insisted on being an OTP shipper and ramble on about the destined love of Peter and Olivia (formerly Blue, currently Amber edition). Serves him right that Peter drew the wrong conclusions and is back to his "this is not my Olivia whom I am destined for, must further search for her" mentality of yore. (Unfortunately, this also means superflous angst inflicted on the viewers, which I'm so not for.) Also, young Mr. Bishop, a bit more reaction on hearing your kid got erased from the time line just so you could get with your One True Love (tm), if you please.
Astrid is still the best of them, with her keeping the father and son bickering to a mininum and everyone focused. Lincoln rapidly becomes second best with his partner concern. As to the current status of Ms Sharpe(s), right now it looks like:
- the Nina allied with Jones was Redverse Nina (though I suppose she could also have been a shapeshifter replacing Redverse Nina, but that would be overcomplicated even for Fringe)
- currently-under-arrest Nina is the one who raised Olivia
- however, whether or not she also works with Jones is up in the air.
One of my concerns from last episode is thereby settled, i.e. since the Nina in the cell with Olivia was Redverse-pretending-to-be-Amber Nina, the fake looking set up of her being tied as if captured only recently makes sense. Since, you know, it was a fake. Which Olivia figured out as well, bless her.
Now: I am displeased at the thought of another hiatus before the next bunch of episodes arrive. I am even more displeased at the thought of the remaining season revolving around Peter Bishop's romantic angst, so please, please, please, show, don't do that. Letting it revolve around Olivia's Cortexiphon powers and corresponding mindmessing issues is okay, though.

Date: 2012-02-25 07:00 pm (UTC)So annoying. I guess they could not go back and retcon that one easily -- but they could explain it better. Like, they all decided a long time ago, no matter the scientist's gender, to shift into the shape of a privileged member of society?

Getting Peter there was a pretty good idea -- safety in numbers. Lincoln is badass too though. Hey, she should have earnestly told Nina and Jones since the loves of her life are her lovely partner and that newcomer to the Fringe team so that both Peter and Lincoln would've been procured. ;)

*snort* Everything about this phrase is hilarious (and I wish it weren't also so true).
Also, young Mr. Bishop, a bit more reaction on hearing your kid got erased from the time line just so you could get with your One True Love (tm), if you please.
You know I'm hard on Peter in general; this however isn't something I fault him for in the least: Sure, baby!Henry is his biologically, but it's not if he has formed any bond whatsoever, is an actual father or somesuch.
Astrid is still the best of them, with her keeping the father and son bickering to a mininum and everyone focused.
Herding cats. Her job description did not say that's what it would be (although of course Rheanna's fantastic story expands on this idea).
Lincoln rapidly becomes second best with his partner concern.
As you know, I love everything about Lincoln, and by now it's safe to say he does have much more in common with his Redverse counterpart than it seemed at first.

Good theory, if you ask me.
- currently-under-arrest Nina is the one who raised Olivia
Yep.
- however, whether or not she also works with Jones is up in the air.
You're not the first one to suggest this; what would indicate that? For as the CEO of Massive Dynamic, she should have little interest in any obliteration of her world, unless of course it's for some greater (but it'd have to be the greatest) purpose...
Which Olivia figured out as well, bless her.
Olivia Dunham: forever my favourite. That scene with the lights! And the electrocution!
I am even more displeased at the thought of the remaining season revolving around Peter Bishop's romantic angst, so please, please, please, show, don't do that.
Amen to that.

Indeed! Such a missed opportunity.
You have a point about Peter and now-erased-Henry.

Date: 2012-02-26 12:33 am (UTC)I didn't mind Peter not reacting to the baby particularly - he doesn't know him in any significant way - but the whole "Now the rest of the season will be about Peter's aaaaangst" fills me with dread. It was by far the worst part of Season 3.
I'm wondering if the fake!Nina we saw is actually a shapeshifter - can shapeshifters copy her bionic arm? They showed it pretty clearly and specifically. Maybe that's Blue!verse Nina who we haven't actually seen yet.
PS Olivia is still awesome in awesome ways. She should lug Peter around in a suitcase to work as her battery for zapping things.
