I may have squeed somewhat loudly when hearing Neil Gaiman would write another Doctor Who episode (PLEASE PLEASE THE FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY ONE), and am of course very gratified to hear The Doctor's Wife won the Hugo. Not just because it was my favourite episode from last season but because it instantly became one of my all time favourites.

Now, in The Doctor's Wife, we hear about a Time Lord named the Corsair (who changes gender, thus making fannish speculation canon that Time Lords can do that when regenerating - love N.G.), and because he's Gaiman, Neil the übercool kindly wrote Eleven Things You Probably Didn't Know About The Corsair. (Make sure you read the entire post which includes a wonderful RTD reaction to same at the bottom.)

See, I had been assuming that the parrot was the Time Lord, and that because he was in that rather non-traditional form the Doctor couldn't tell he was still alive. But this totally works as well, and who am I to argue with Rusty?

And I now want a whole series of spin-off adventures with the Corsair in them. When is the BBC going to just give Big Finish the new series license? (I feel confidant they are champing at the bit to give us the Corsair Chronicles as well as to have Madame Vastra and Jenny meet Jago and Litefoot ...)

Well, I always understood the parrot to be the senior partner, so was wondering if the Corsair could also regenerate into parrots. But perhaps it is a superior life form we haven't met anywhere else, which decided to take the Corsair in hand?

Maybe it's an Eternal? Although I don't know why one of them would want to befriend a Time Lord. Or look like a parrot, for that matter. Perhaps RTD will resolve this mystery for us at some future time.

If I remember rightly, Cyril Nri made a remark to the effect that "you'll find out soon" on his last appearance, so presumably there was a story planned before Lis Sladen died.

I'm wondering if we might eventually get some of the planned Sarah Jane Adventures that never got made as books. Doctor Who fandom rarely lets a lost story go *g*.

I didn't know people not in fandom-as-I-know-it (which I didn't think Gaiman was in) wrote N Things fics.

Clearly, the parrot is a Higher Power.

Stranger things have happened canonically.
