The Good Wife: runs along like a well-oiled machine. I have not much new to say. The continued Nick the abusive husband plot does not feel me with confidence this won't be this season's Blake. Do I ever miss the times when Kalinda's subplots put her with Cary and/or Dana! Speaking of Cary, he hasn't had more than a line or so this season yet, and I miss him. And the look we got via him at the goings-on at the state attorney's office. The software girls and not!Steve Jobs were a good case of the week, but the opposite lawyer was in no ways memorable. *eyes recurring lawyers of past seasons* When is Michael J. Fox coming back? Nathan Lane is a good new character, mind. Not sure what the point of Alicia in distress at the thought of the Will affair being outed, then not giving a shit re: possible Peter affair, then glad after all Peter turned out to be innocent was, but Julianna played it all superbly.
I've decided Elementary is my new comfort tv. Meaning the procedurals are by the numbers, but the show totally sells me on the characters and their developing relationship. It just feels so good to have a variation of Sherlock Holmes again where I can honestly like both Holmes and Watson, not grudgingly, wholehertedly, and enjoy their interaction instead of wishing Watson would quit Holmes for good. I love Joan Watson and her quiet awesomeness, and I really really appreciate this Sherlock Holmes actually cares, as the Doyle one did, about justice and saving victims. Also so far they're doing the whole recovering addict angle really well, and I'm at times reminded of Nicholas Meyer's The Seven Percent Solution. If I have one nitpick, it's that I wonder why daddy issues, and then it suddenly occured to me that the last American incarnation of Holmes, Gregory House, had daddy issues as well. Yes, it's the one thing American tv shows and films have more than enough of, but then again, I did like the variation that came with this week's case in tihe form of Adam the young psycho. And you know, Det. Gregson's black sidekick, who's none to keen on Holmes? Hasn't been vilified or presented as an idiot or tool of the bad guys or slutshamed. I'm just saying. Anyway, Elementary is by no means groundbreaking tv, but so far, every episode has left me feeling fond of the protagonists and looking forward to watching more of their adventures. Go show!

Date: 2012-10-19 05:47 pm (UTC)Mind you, then there are shows like Lost who include so many daddy issues, above and beyond what anyone else managed to feature on their show, it's enjoyable again, of which I reminded myself by reading this old poll of mine.
