This Never Happened To Me Before: The Sequel

Now my Yuletide recipient just posted her letter. Which has details! Hooray! Except that the letter names a different fandom than the one we matched in. Basically, the assignment was:

Request A - Unknown to me.
Request B - Unknown to me.
'Request C - Very Well Known Lovely Fannish Source Which I've Not Yet Written In Which Is Why I Signed UP For It

However, in the now posted Yuletide letter with the prompts, Request C is a completely different fannish source, which I don't know from Adam, but which starts with the same first letter as does the fannish source I do know. I'm assuming she simply clicked the wrong fandom when filling out her form - since they start with the same letter - and because she didn't click on any characters, she didn't notice her error.

...I've written to the Yuletide Gods, but good grief, what is it with this year?

Well. My (not any longer?) recipient actually may or may not be familiar with the fandom I thought we shared, but it's not what she wanted to request, obviously. And I'm certainly not familiarizing myself with some fandom I have no idea about. So what now? Hope someone else is left over and I get a new assignment on any fandom I do match in?

...Well. Off to distract myself by hunting down typos in 20 something pages already written Yuletide Treat story and possibly note down thoughts for pretentious Bond meta burning in my finger tips.

Eek, yeah. It sounds like a matching problem. I'm guessing they'll send you a replacement assignment.

[ETA: and actually if you tell them you've already written a full length story as a treat, they might count that for your participation. But no fun if you are looking forward to writing an assigned story!

Well, I was, rather, because that's part of the frisson, isn't it - which challenge will I get? And here I was, well into the brushing up on fannish source already because I really love it and was looking forward to writing it.

I did mention the already finished story in my email, though.

What a mess. I know why I always double-check these things if at all possible. I mean, in the exchange run on AO3 that I signed up in, you can see your sign-up and you could edit it for a time.

Yes, I double and triple check as well for that reason. And for Yuletide, the sign up is there to edit for eons. However this recipient says in her letter it's her first Yuletide, so - beginner's mistake? Bad for me, though.

Are you on the pinch hit email list? If it turns out to be an error, you could write a pinch hit instead, and still make someone's Yuletide bright.

Pinch list: no, I'm not, because the week before Christmas is usually so hectic it doesn't leave me any writing time. However, this year I already did finish something which I'm, errr, at least a bit sure will make someone happy. This being said, I was looking forward to that assignment, damm it! Ideas were already starting to form, and rewatching the source reminded me how good it is and how much I love it...

At least twenty pinch hits have gone out already, so it's definitely not just the final week (though obviously there are more then).

That's a bummer! Perhaps you could be assigned to double write for someone else in one of the fandoms you can write?
