We now have one and a half trailers (that is, a regular one and one with additional fourteen seconds for the Japanese, presumably to make up for the fact they get to see the film four months after everyone else) for the next Star Trek film.

Here is a great analysis of the three most popular theories about it.

Personally, I'd prefer 1.), for the same reasons as the blogger, but I'm feeling pretty mellow. I mean, I enjoy the Rebootverse, and of course TOS was my gateway drug, but the Star Trek of my heart are DS9 and TNG, which has the advantage of reducing fannish angst and fretting to no end. If I like it, it'll provide me with some happy fannish hours; if not, I'm not going into fannish despair, because whatever happens in the Rebootverse doesn't affect the original timeline leading to the 24th century, considering they've split, so, no sweat. Meanwhile, how's that Brian Epstein biopic coming along, Mr. Cumberbatch?

Given a lot of time and effort has gone into analysis of the young woman and her hairdo, may I present another candidate for who she may be a modern avatar of: Col. Virginia Lake . Admittedly, this could make it "Star Trek into the Freudian Time-Travel Paradox Cross-over of Doom" but who cares?
