Thirty Days of TV: Day Three
Feb. 11th, 2013 07:11 pmDay 03 - Your favorite new show (aired this TV season)
Okay, I'm taking that to mean "show not only new to me but so new it hasn't even finished its first season yet and is in fact currently airing". Given this, there's really just one choice: Elementary. Which was such a delightful surprise. Maybe I'm giving it more credit than fair because it's such a relief to be able to not only like a version of Sherlock Holmes again but actively root for the Holmes & Watson friendship instead of thinking "run, Watson, run!", but I think the character and relationship development on this show is genuinenly well done, and I also love the respect for our supporting cast, Gregson and Bell. It has its weaknesses in the plotting department (plotting of the cases, that is, not of the character development), but I haven't yet regretted watching a single episode. Even the weaker ones, which I probably will skip on some far into the future complete season rewatch date, had scenes that made me happy in them. In conclusion: right now, I'm feeling exceedingly fluffy about this show.

Date: 2013-02-12 12:15 am (UTC)Amusingly, I have little desire to read fic or consume most fanworks, fanart is probably the exception , but this is the fandom I most want to engage with other fans around. Perhaps because, unlike the Marvel fandom I'm also in at the moment, this one seems small enough to be manageable?

Date: 2013-02-12 12:53 pm (UTC)Elementary had some lovely fanfic at Yuletide. I was also thrilled that while there was some romance, the overwhelming majority of the 23 or so Yuletide Elementary stories were friendship fic. In which other fandom is that the case?

Date: 2013-02-12 03:24 pm (UTC)As for other fandoms with friendship fic, no clue. I'm head-over-heels for Cabin Pressure, and I do not feel the romantic dynamic for pairings outside of canon (which are fabulous-awesome-love, for what that's worth), but much of the fic is slash -- or crossover with bbc sherlock, usually slash. Neither appeal at all. I'd love to see more friendship and found-family-fun fic.
