Preface: the reason why you won't find the Star Trek transporter or the Blake's 7 bracelet depending transporter listed her is that like Dr. McCoy, I don't trust these things. I don't want to meet my evil doppelganger (or would that be my good doppelganger, in which case it's [profile] amenirdis and I withdraw the objection), end up in a parallel universe, turn into a gigantic spider or get my age wrong. So, I choose:

1.) By teleporter. Of course, there are several of those around in many a sci fi fandom. My favourite teleporter of all time is Gucky from Perry Rhodan, but that's a fandom only some of my fellow Germans now, so I'll pick my second favourite, who is a German in a fandom many English speaking people know: Kurt "But in the Munich circus, they called me the Amazing Nightcrawler" Wagner of X-Men fame, played in the film by Alan Cummings and therefore doubly endearing.

2.) The Tardis. (Doctor Who). Well, naturally. Space, time, whimsical, daft and, of course, sexy!

3.) Emma the Lokomotive (Jim Knopf und Lukas der Lokomotivführer). In Michael Ende's first novel for children, Emma the train is in danger of being retired and scrapped for parts which makes our heroes Lukas and Jim high tail it out of Lummerland to save her and set the pot in motion. Emma is like Moya on Farscape in that she's motherly, brave, conscious and actually pregnant as it turns out, only her offspring is somewhat more emotionally stable than poor Talyn. Here are Emma and her boys, with their song:

Also, in a quick Doctor Who crossover, when he was Five the Doctor confessed there was a time he wanted to become a train conductor (like Lukas), so there.

4.) By wild geese (Nils Holgersson). The cartoon version was one of my favourite things as a child and it broke my heart when Nils was normalsized again aind couldn't talk to the geese anymore. Anyway. Selma Lagerlöf reportedly wrote the book to educate children about Swedish geography in an entertaining fashion, and the result was something magical (at least for me). Nils, brat extraordinaire, is cursed/blessed to pint size and ends up travelling with the wild geese (and one tame ganter, Martin, who wanted to join them and was owned by Nils' parents).

5.) Bessie (Doctor Who). I know, that's two of one fandom, but how could I not? Pic spam and demonstration of love for the best car ever as well as DoctorBessie shipping manifesto. The TARDIS' only true rival. Here is her introduction to the show (also featuring the late lovely Carolin John as Liz Shaw):

Name the five moments in canon that made you believe your favorite pairing belongs together.

First of all, I don't have just one favorite pairing, and secondly, the whole belonging together part is tricky, as several of my favourite pairings are actually better off apart (Doctor/Master, Xavier/Magneto) with only intermittent reunions, or have make that friends-with-benefits-package really work for them, which means sometimes they're together as friends but not romantically because one or both is with other people, and they're fine with that (Duncan/Amanda), and some have too many moments to count (Londo/G'Kar) but the definition of "together" changes for them throughout canon, so.

However, it occurs to me I need to polish up my status as the world's only Crichton/Rygel shipper. Ask [personal profile] hmpf, who introduced me to Farscape; while other people fell for John/Aeryn and came around to John/Scorpius, I not only went for the Dominar as my favourite character (this is me, DS9 veteran who deserted Garak for Quark in this capacity) but also shipped Rygel with the show's hero from day 1. Well, almost. Anyway, scenes proving that TheirLoveIsMeantToBe.

1.) Family Ties, season 1: Crichton takes Rygel's betrayal and change of mind in stride, as part of the package that is Rygel, and kisses him on the head while making that clear. Look, this kissing on the head thing is part of one of my favourite Buffy/Faith scenes as well. (Buffy and Faith aren't the pair for this meme because they're in the Doctor/Master, Xavier/Magneto category of better-off-separate-with-the-occasional-reunion.)

2.) Won't Get Fooled Again, season 2: Rygel shows up as part of Crichton's sexual hallucination together with Chiana and Zhaan. And a whip. We're not blaming Harvey and Scorpius for that one, are we? It's all part of Crichton's subconscious desires. *veg*

3.) Fractures, season 3: in the middle of his dead-alter-ego-and-Aeryn angst, Crichton takes the time out to rescue Rygel from a femme fatale and cheer him up afterwards. So to speak. I was touched!

4.) Crichton Kicks, season 4: this time, Rygel is the one giving Crichton the matter of factly pep talk, succintly analysing the John/Aeryn relationship and offering a handy (bad pun intended) list of Crichton obsessions to boot: "Wormholes, Aeryn, Earth, Aeryn, Scorpius, Aeryn." John doesn't listen, but what else is new? He does admit Sparky has a point. Sort of.

5.) Kansas, season 4: Crichton and Rygel get high together. On sugar, but still. They have a great time and enjoy themselves without making anyone else miserable, which, frankly, is more than John Crichton manages by s4 of Farscape with most people, especially Aeryn.

All this, and I didn't even mention the fact Rygel ends up pregnant by Crichton in The Peacekeeper Wars. In conclusion: They're meant to be.

These days, lots of people post pretty pictures of their OTPs. This is as good an excuse as any for what follows, dear reader. You see, in all the mighty shipping wars now waged in Doctor Who fandom, one name is sadly missing, and I just don't understand it, for this being was really the only rival the TARDIS ever had in the Doctor's hearts, and we all know (or should) that he loves the TARDIS best. There was just this one time. The time he cheated on her. It's a stirring tale of infatuation, love, betrayal, abandonment and reunion after years of separation. (And as such, provides even useful material for those of you who want further proof the Doctor can be a total bastard who leaves you behind sometimes, then shows up again and - well, you'll see.) Now, while of course I ship Doctor/TARDIS above everything else, I must admit this torrid affair has also won my heart. Which means that naturally, I want to convince others of my cause. More people than just myself need to admit that this is clearly THE crucial romance in the Doctor's life.

Behold proof )
