To coin a phrase, I'm hoping to get the Chris Chibnall who wrote the first season of Broadchurch as well as the Torchwood episode Adrift more than the Chris Chibnall who wrote Cyberwoman or Exit Wounds as well as several not-very-memorable-to-me episodes of Doctor Who. (Well, okay, The Power of Three was very cute.) The Chris Chibnall who wrote Kiss Kiss Bang Bang can come along, too; Doctor Who should be silly and whimsical at times, or it wouldn't be itself.
To get more general: I'm actively trying to avoid spoilers, but of course I saw the casting news which seem to indicate we'll get a Team TARDIS consisting of at least four if not five people. This sounds good to me, being the ensemble fan that I am, plus Chibnall is a show runner (am thinking of Broadchurch here) who has proven he can handle advancing the stories of more than one or two characters, and who can provide several interesting and complicated relationship at once. That he's worked with Jodi Whittaker before and extensively should be to the benefit of the show. As for other possibly recurring guest stars: I actually hope the new Doctor's first season won't feature Missy (or any other regeneration of the Master), River Song, or any of the Moffat era Companions. Later seasons, yes, absolutely, but the first one should establish itself via the new Companions and Doctor. RTD era Companions, if Chibnall wants to bring any back, should similarly be kept for the next season, because of the potential emotional baggage. Except for Jack Harkness, who lends himself to guest appearance, and given Chibnall headed the two first seasons of Torchwood and thus is arguably more familiar with the character than any of the other Whoverse scriptwriters still working, the odds would be good for something interesting.
As for Classic Who Companions: I'll have to see Chibnall in action as a DW main writer and producter before I know whether I trust him with Ace whom I'd otherwise love to meet a female regeneration of the Doctor.
As for the Doctor herself: no specific hopes beyond "may she be sometimes brilliant and sometimes an idiot, and sometimes both, as is the character's want". (I don't think being female should prevent the Doctor from goofiness or the occasional mistake or condemm her to being written as Awesome All The Time - none of them ever were meant to be that.)
Lastly, on a silly note: RTD used Wales and Welshness on both DW and TW, Moffat promited Scots and Scottishness all the way. Wiki tells me Chibnall is from Formby, Merseyside, not that far away from Liverpool. Dare I hope for a Scouse angle?

Re: <i<Class characters, also a yes/but, as in: wouldn't they have to be reintroduced for the fast majority of viewers who sadly didn't see the splendid show? And if so, would that reintroduction get the emotional weight across that has built up over a season? I'm more pinning my hopes on Big Finish picking up Class and giving us a proper second season. *crosses fingers*
