Thirty Days of Medici: Favourite Episode

Here I have to make a choice for each season, given that each tells a separate story, with a different ensemble. (Other than Contessina guest starring in Lorenzo’s s2 childhood flashbacks.)
So, for s1: episode 1.04, Judgement Day: because it has so many excellent things: hurt/comfort for Cosimo and Contessina as they have their most tender scene yet (when he thinks he’s dying) only for him to be an utter bastard to her (when she saves his life) but also signalling he knows she’s a queen (who else to represent the Medici in Florence?). “20 years ago” flashbacks revealing Albizzi’s hate-on for Cosimo is based on Cosimo having betrayed a confidence when they were friends for all of five minutes (no one in this show ever gets over a Medici, is what I’m saying). Contessina and Lucrezia networking and plotting as best they can (I do love their matriarch mentoring future matriarch relatiohnship!). Piero for the defense, earnestly doing his best. In short: it has the aspects that made me fond of the show in full measure.
For s2: episode 2.08, Mass, the season finale. It brings all the season has been building towards to a climax and does so incredibly well. It takes an historical event and makes it really suspenseful. It steals some emotional beats from Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar and actually pulls that off. Our main character goes through a major transformation. There is no moment wasted. And: it’s gorgeously filmed. It’s the kind of love one shares with legendary pelican mothers, mind, i.e. ripping your heart out, feeding with blood, but still: I do love this episode, and it’s my favourite.
