The Ferengi. Okay, in as much as I do have a soft spot for a lot of Ferengi characters, due to DS9, and can still quote some rules of aquisition, and yes, I'm aware of all the ways, Doylist and Watsonian, in which they are terrible. Also, with the exception of the one Ferengi scientist who shows up in TNG only to get murdered, no Trek series other than DS9 had Ferengi who were more than cringe-worthy caricatures, so I should qualify: Ferengi on DS9 only. But still; Jadzia Dax, I'm with you.

One of the reasons I like the FErengi is that they never were converted to pure sweetness and light. They were very individualistic in DS9. All sorts of things to dislike as a culture, but wonderful to watch on TV!

I think it was Ira Behr (one of the main writers & producers) said that to him, the Ferengi were the unidealized humans of the present day. :)
