Easter Wells 2023

For the holidays, I offer a pic spam of our Franconian Easter Wells again, starting with a new one I only discovered this year.

Returning to familiar favourites: Tiefenpölz, where my AP was delighted to discover they offer boiled eggs to passing travellers again this year (last year they didn't):












Beringersmühle, where they decorate their well with a different theme every year. This year's theme were the roads and hiking paths through Franconian Switzerland:

See, we already had a German located River of London spin-off set around Trier, but I'm telling you, we need one set in Franconia, where the River goddesses are majorly into eggs...

One of my reliable favourites is the bridge at Drosendorf:





Here's one which used to present plastic eggs, but this time went for hand painted ones with incredibly lovely detail, at Königsfeld:

I Love the little rhymes for each month! Are they a standard poem, or did they make them up?

No, they're not a standard poem, at least not one I'm familiar with, so they're a part of the painters' creativity!

I'm really glad I captured the sunrise this year, last year it was so cloudy, and the predictions were dire this week, but in Bamberg we lucked out and got a perfectly sunny morning and most of the day.

Every year when you post these I can't get over how much time and effort went into these. I think my favorites were the eggs with the cut-outs with a figure/theme within in the pic right before the sunrise. The ladybug egg was also super cute!

The open eggs are adorable and fiendishly difficult to create, I imagine, given that you have to remove a part of the shell without destroying the entire structure...

These are so intricate! I can't even begin to imagine how much labour went into them. Such a pretty result, though.

Yes, it must have taken an incredible amount of deft labour and artistry. Usually clubs and associations in the respective villages and small towns dedicated to either prettifying it in general or to specifically this tradition are the ones named as the originators; my father's secretary belongs such such a club, though what she does isn't egg-related - her husband is a carpenter, and she paints the wooden bunnies he makes.
