Easter Wells 2024
Mar. 31st, 2024 03:53 pmI had a turbulent last two weeks, especially Easter week, hence the relative scarceness of yours truly online. However, starting with Good Friday, things calmed down, and I was able to visit the Easter Wells we have in Franconian Switzerland again.

One eternal favourite of mine is the one in Ebermannstadt, not the main one but one hidden away somewhat, around the statue of a local Rokoko composer, Melchior Freytag.

As it had rained for half of Good Friday, you can often see small water drops left on those eggs, like here in Teuchatz:

Listing and explaining all the local attractions:

Often, the charm of an Easter Well works in combination with the church or landscape or city in the background, like here:

My AP's eternal favourite remains Tiefenpölz:

And we're both into the bridge at Drosendorf:

The delightful arrangement we discovered last year at Steppenfeld remains incredibly charming:

One well I usually see just in passing but which remains beautiful each year is the one near the basilica of Gößweinstein:

The most original this year to me was the one at Kleingesee, where this year's theme was Franconian Switzerland itself, and so the well decoration highlight various things to do there as well as local attractions. Behold:

Biking, Climbing, Hiking:

And here's the basilica of Gößweinstein again:

Also, Franconian moods:

And the train:
In conclusion, your honour, I dig it:

Of course, the Neuschwanstein of Easter Wells, which also is overcrowded the same way, remains Bieberbach:

Which makes the very pretty Heiligenstadt, probably the second largest, Herrenchiemsee, I suppose (btw, by then the sun started to make an appearance:

And have three more wells observed in passing (in Litzendorf and Pödeldorf, respectively):

I'll have you know, though, that Good Friday doesn't start with Easter Wells and in the car with me, but on foot, before sunrise, and this is why I can present you this sight of my hometown at Easter:

Date: 2024-04-01 04:03 am (UTC)I think my favorites are the ones with cutouts (which I find very impressive --- how do you even cut eggshell?) but I also am super fond of the musical ones, you won't be surprised to hear :D
