Of course, masques must relax, too. So must photographers. Have a look first at some beautiful costumes at rest, and then at the Aged Parent:

and lasty, one more look at Venice:

In the late afternoon, you could find a lot of the masques having tea inside the Café Florian, but unfortunately photographing through glass doesn't work so well, so I was really glad to catch some outside!

Those look amazing. Especially with all the creepy masks! It actually reminds me of the clockwork men in The Girl in the Fireplace, last season.

That's why I thought the clockwork men worked so well - they completely fitted with the 18th century atmosphere (and that century's obsession with automatons), but could also serve as analogues to the nobles in their masks...

You do realize that [livejournal.com profile] penknife and I are both dead of envy -- not the least because the AP is sitting about in shirt sleeves while our driveway is a five inch sheet of ice and it hasn't been above about -12 C for a week!

*sigh* So lovely!

See, I could use a little snow over here. I haven't had the chance to ski this year, because it's so warm. Ah, well.*g*

(Okay, this sounds a) naive, b) young, and c) provincially American, I know that. But.)

Oh my god, it really does look like that! I though it only looked like that in MOVIES! That is so COOL!!

That's what I thought about the Grand Canyon the first time I saw it, so there you go.*g*

Of course they don't walk around in masks during the rest of the year. But Venice really is that beautiful.

My kids? Spent about fifteen minutes looking at the pictures and asking questions and discussing their favorite costumes.

So, thank you again!

Those are goregouse pictures. I'm so jealous you're able to see places like that so regularly!

And that dog is adorable. *g*

God, Selena, that was so cool. I want to go someday! Venice looks amazing in general, but Carnival even more so. Thanks so much for posting these. Loved every shot.

I'll cross my fingers you'll be able to go and see both, Venice and the Carnival.

I was tempted to start with "what news on the Rialto", but since you never read "Merchant of Venice", it would have been wasted.*veg*

The Klimt costume!!!

You sound like you had a wonderful time. Where did you stay?

(And really, time the AP's hunches took him to Paris; It's only 750km away, after all... *hint hint*)
