Like every year, the APs and self drove through Franconia, our home province, to look at the pretty Easter Wells, which are our local specialty. Here are some of this year's highlights:

This is actually the spring of the Wiesent, the river which runs through what we call "Franconian Switzerland". And that's my mother standing there.

The next ones are from the biggest and most splendid of the Easter Wells, in Bieberbach:

Eggs and greenery aren't all; of course the villages include hares, too:

Observe that they're painting easter eggs. Incidentally, the eggs are truly all hand-painted, sometimes by local school children, sometimes by more experienced local artists.

Moving on to Heiligenstadt:

As Anya would say, it must be bunnies:

This one always has eggs for sale, too, not decorative ones but boiled eggs, to eat. Which is what my father did; Mum and self just observed the pretty:

That is so cool! And so pretty, too -- it must take ages to set up!

(And I'm using this icon not just because it has a bunny on it, but also because it snowed last night and might today!)

Ages: indeed, and to think the end result gets presented only for a few days.

Icon: too cute. Snow, hm? Everywhere but here. Ah, well, I did my skiing anyway last month.

Absolutely lovely! That must take months to prepare with all the egg painting, etc!

Quite. And the eggs are so fragile - as not of plastic but the genuine article - so I don't want to know how many get broken in the processs...

Oy! That's a lot of eggs. But they are very lovely.

Those are gorgeous, esp the painted eggs. I always wonder why there are no decorations for Easter which really ought to be a bigger festival than Christmas, and am delighted to find that there is somewhere they do have them.

These are lovely pictures. Through the wonders of LJ, we get to see something most of us will never experience first-hand.

And that's my mother standing there.

She looks far too young to be your mother!

I shall tell her you said that! *g* (Seriously, she was 21 when she had me, and my Dad was 23, so I always had the youngest parents of most people my age...)
