Joss Whedon Field Trip
Sep. 9th, 2007 06:30 amThis was the splendid idea of
bitterbyrden, whom I visited today: tour Los Angeles for its Jossverse locations. We had a blast. Here's the result, in picspam, so that you, too, can share our fannish dorkness:

Wolfram and Hart office building, actually owned by Sony. I wonder whether this tells us something about Sony?

Angelus Rosedale Cemetary (yes, that's the actual name). This is where they shot the location cemetary scenes. The guard, alas, was a jerk and would not let us in, despite it been a quarter to five (and they weren't supposed to shut their gates until five.) So I was reduced to one picture from afar.

The Hyperion, on the other hand, which is actually an apartment building, got photographed from several sides and with its beautiful Courtyard. Behold:

That Angel fellow sure knew how where to live. As evidenced also by the next location:

Angel's mansion in Sunnydale, also known as a Frank Llyod Wright building. Who knew? And speaking of Sunnydale:

Yes, it's Sunnydale High! Be still, my fannish heart. Oh, I loved this. Despite the light getting worse for photos.

More Sunnydale High. And one last look:

Date: 2007-09-09 04:56 am (UTC)So glad to see you did.
*has done the 'homicide' tour of Baltmore, partly because the show used so many locations that if you go to Baltimore, you can't really help it*

This comment contains spoilers for The Wire.

Date: 2007-09-09 05:05 am (UTC)If you ever come to Vancouver, there's the Highlander tour to do..I live just a little ways from a stretch of road that was used many times in the show.
And of course, there's the Battlestar Galactica tour..Caprica City looks just like Simon Fraser University!

That was a lot of fun. Thanks again for going with me. I'd always wanted to, and it was gratifying as all hell. Maybe someday I'll get the guts to actually barge into some of these places. Like the cemetery, and the Hyperion.

Date: 2007-09-09 08:55 am (UTC)I never realised what fun location spotting could be until I leapt up and down in total fannish geekiness at the spot where Duncan's barge was moored in Paris. It does give that wonderful extra frisson to seeing places doesn't it.

Date: 2007-09-09 02:25 pm (UTC)Fun fact about Rosedale Cemetery: Hattie McDaniel, best remembered by many as "Mammy" in GWTW and "Beulah" on radio, is buried there, and broke the color barrier on the previously segregated cemetery. She had originally requested burial at Hollywood Memorial (now Hollywood Forever), located just behind Paramount Studios (where Angel was filmed), but that cemetery was also segregated in 1952 and refused to allow the burial.
