This was the splendid idea of [livejournal.com profile] bitterbyrden, whom I visited today: tour Los Angeles for its Jossverse locations. We had a blast. Here's the result, in picspam, so that you, too, can share our fannish dorkness:

Wolfram and Hart office building, actually owned by Sony. I wonder whether this tells us something about Sony?

Angelus Rosedale Cemetary (yes, that's the actual name). This is where they shot the location cemetary scenes. The guard, alas, was a jerk and would not let us in, despite it been a quarter to five (and they weren't supposed to shut their gates until five.) So I was reduced to one picture from afar.

The Hyperion, on the other hand, which is actually an apartment building, got photographed from several sides and with its beautiful Courtyard. Behold:

That Angel fellow sure knew how where to live. As evidenced also by the next location:

Angel's mansion in Sunnydale, also known as a Frank Llyod Wright building. Who knew? And speaking of Sunnydale:

Yes, it's Sunnydale High! Be still, my fannish heart. Oh, I loved this. Despite the light getting worse for photos.

More Sunnydale High. And one last look:

Oh, awesome! I've done the same sort of thing in my own state with Kevin Smith movie landmarks. It's so much fun to be geeky that way. :)

Very cool pictures. It sounds like you guys had a great time today. I'm jealous!

I never thought to look up Jossverse locations when I was last there. I guess now I have a reason to go back. ;)

The power of the Jossverse compels you - go visit Los Angeles once more, I say! *g*

Like I wasn't reason ENOUGH?!

And yes, come out! Perhaps by the time you get here, I'll add to the tour. And have a little spiel to go along with it.

But se, now I have TWO reasons to go! Once I can afford it. I did like it the other two times I went, even if I did spend most of said time at soap opera fan events. Heh. My first fandom. Awww.

How awesome!

[livejournal.com profile] bitterbyrden told me this idea the other day and I said, "YOU MUST DO IT!!!"

So glad to see you did.

*has done the 'homicide' tour of Baltmore, partly because the show used so many locations that if you go to Baltimore, you can't really help it*

If I come to Baltimore, I will beg someone to take me on a The Wire tour.

If you come before May, I have a friend who can do it.

Not that you'd want to visit all those locations.

This comment contains spoilers for The Wire.

This is awesome!!! What a fabulous idea - I'm so glad you guys did that. I loved seeing the pictures. It got me all nostalgic for the shows. Oh man, I totally want to live in the Hyperion, it's such a gorgeous building.

Thanks for sharing!! :D

It was such a nostalgia trip for us, too, and yes, we totally voted for the Hyperion as a place to live.

Very cool indeed! I'd love to live at the Hyperion!
If you ever come to Vancouver, there's the Highlander tour to do..I live just a little ways from a stretch of road that was used many times in the show.
And of course, there's the Battlestar Galactica tour..Caprica City looks just like Simon Fraser University!

Here are mine for Sunnydale High:

That was a lot of fun. Thanks again for going with me. I'd always wanted to, and it was gratifying as all hell. Maybe someday I'll get the guts to actually barge into some of these places. Like the cemetery, and the Hyperion.

Oh, yours are way better. I don't know why my camera deserted me in those last pictures. Re: Casa Summers, dude, I'm German. You tell me that it's not okay to make photos of people's private residences, I don't do that. It's practically written all over my dna.*g*

And thank you for suggesting the trip, once more. It was such a blast. *looks forward to desert trip*

Oh wow! I am deeply jealous and also amazingly impressed at Angel's taste in architecture. Who knew!

I never realised what fun location spotting could be until I leapt up and down in total fannish geekiness at the spot where Duncan's barge was moored in Paris. It does give that wonderful extra frisson to seeing places doesn't it.

To quote Cordy about Angel, in the early days, "you have great taste; you have, like, a gay man's taste". *g* No, seriously, trust Angel (as Angelus!) to spot an FLW building in Sunnydale. Naturally he returned there in s3!

It's so weird to see a cemetery surrounded by palm trees. I always associate old oak trees, moss and ivy with old graveyards.

Great pictures, I'm still jealous. ;)

I know; the first time I ever saw a Californian cemetary (Woodlawn Cemetary in Santa Monica, where Feuchtwanger is buried), I was weirded out, but in a good way; it's part of the city's peculiar charm.

I shall endeavour to keep reasons for jealousy coming! *g*

Great pictures of the main locations, though so many secondary ones abound around Los Angeles, especially for the first couple of seasons for Angel.

Fun fact about Rosedale Cemetery: Hattie McDaniel, best remembered by many as "Mammy" in GWTW and "Beulah" on radio, is buried there, and broke the color barrier on the previously segregated cemetery. She had originally requested burial at Hollywood Memorial (now Hollywood Forever), located just behind Paramount Studios (where Angel was filmed), but that cemetery was also segregated in 1952 and refused to allow the burial.
