Remix! And a rec
Feb. 18th, 2008 10:08 pmThe sign-ups for this year's Remix Redux ficathon have been opened! Last year I participated for the first time, and had great fun remixing an Alias story of
kangeiko's, while getting one of my Babylon 5 stories remixed by
leyenn, so, despite a busy springtime ahead, I couldn't resist signing up again. After all, I've discovered and written in an entire new fandom (Heroes) since then, and finally taken the plunge and written in an old one (Doctor Who). Plus the basic principle of this particular ficathon - take someone else's story and re-tell it in a new way, give it another twist - is just too good not to tackle every now and then. Come and sign up, too, oh flist, if you haven't already?
Anf a fanfic rec from a fandom I've never written in and never will, but occasionally enjoy reading very much, Harry Potter:
One of the most fascinating things in Deathly Hallows was the backstory for Dumbledore that was revealed bit for bit, Citizen-Kane-Style, through various perspectives. Not surprisingly, most people focused on the Grindledore (Dumblewald?) aspect in the fanfiction it inspired. Today, I've found a story that takes on Dumbledore's sister Ariana and uses the basic plot of Pan's Labyrinth to tell her story in the sensitive, dark and fantastic way it deserves to be told: The Faun's Labyrinth. The relationships between Ariana and her brothers, Aberforth and Albus, and the new arrival Gellert Grindelwald are all drawn vividly and ring true; it's one of those stories that makes you say "this is part of my fanon now" after reading it.

Date: 2008-02-19 11:16 pm (UTC)So basically I friended you because after reading many of your fics and little posts ranting about fandoms I was like "This one is interesting, she is!" so I'm watching you now. Yesss.
Also you seem to be into a few other shows I like, too, of course including Buffy & Angel. Yays!
So there you have it. I'm a stalker. The end. :D
