Remix, fanfic recs and travel
Jun. 14th, 2009 07:25 amFirstly, Remix. I got my assignment, and upon checking the remixees stories felt like fainting in a Victorian manner. Since while we share more than one fandom, she mostly writes PWP type drabbles, and the only non-drabble story which immediately talked to me was her safe story. I gnashed, I wailed, then I buckled up and read again, and then, inspiration hit me about one other vignette. It's set during one of the most widely loathed episodes of the fandom in question, which appeals to my inner imp of the perverse, as Poe once put it, plus I think I might be able to do some genuine character and backstory exploration. Phew.
Now, as for the other side of the barricade: Dear remixer, since last year I've created a post linking all my fanfiction divided by fandom, which should make things easier than last year when it was just ye olde disorderly ffn page and the lj fanfiction tag. As you can see, I'm a multifandom girl, so perhaps you'll find something you can work with in at least one of them. Hope you have fun!
Secondly, still on a fanfiction note, two recs:
Battlestar Galactica/ Star Wars: This is what will be. In which a Leoben model ends up in the great galaxy far, far away. The revelation why he's there is a fantastic punchline to a wonderfully unsettling story. (Also, I can't help but note that the quality of the BSG crossovers in this year's Multiverse ficathon seems to confirm the old cliché that fanfic thrives on flawed canon more than on shows which make most of their fans happy with their world building, characterisation and stories...)
Babylon 5:
Changes of Heart: a good take on one of my favourite s4 scenes, the final one between Londo and G'Kar in No Surrender, No Retreat. (Aka the episode where there is supposedly some crucial battle human/human battle going on, but I have entirely blanked out on this because ZOMG the Londo/G'Kar and the one Vir and Garibaldi scene!)
Now, real life: I'm off to Paris this afternoon, where I'll stay with the hospitable
shezan for a few days and will have the chance to listen to baroque music in Versailles. Also, it's been a few years since I've last visited the city of the lights, and this time, I'll be armed with my little camera, so expect gratitious pic spams of a few old favourites. :)
